Re: KiKi's Thyroid Medication

The ear gel only works if the dosage is small.  My cat used it for a year or so.  His dosage was increased and this no longer worked.  He also had gel build up in his ear.  If I had to do it again, I'd get him the surgery.

I agree if surgery is an option that is the way to go. Unfortunately for me my cat was 13 and had kidney disease so she was not a candidate for the surgery.

Re: KiKi's Thyroid Medication

Sherlene:  My 14 year old girl has been taking thyroid medication for a few months.  She takes other pills as well and always used to give me a hard time, so my vet recommended using a compounding pharmacy and this has been a go*dsend.  The pills are compounded in the form of a treat and look like a pliable, soft brown dough. They come in various flavors (I always get the chicken flavor). I give her a small amount of wet food, warmed for a few seconds in the microwave, then break up the pill into crumbs and mix it into the food. Once she has eaten it all, she gets the rest of her meal.  It is a bit time-consuming, but it works for us and it might be worth considering for your girl.  If you don't have a compounding pharmacy in your town, I would recommend using Golden Gate Pharmacy in San Rafael, CA.  They send them to you by FedEx - but allow about a week for them to arrive.  Good luck.
