SO beautiful in every way! Tears are flowing

Beautiful, but hard to read. This is the second post today that made me cry.
I need to remember these words the next time I get a dog.

How wonderful for both of you!..
We no longer have pets due to our medical issues..All our kitties lived long happy lives before they went over the rainbow bridge.
We always asked at the shelter for older kitties..The woman was very surprised she said everyone wants kitties..We took 2 of the "older ladies" that had been there a while..When we brought them home...One of them threw herself on the carpet and rolled and stretched as if to say "finally"!
The "ladies" hated each other..LOL..One was an upstairs cat the other was the downstairs cat..They had everything they needed and wanted on each level of the house.Of course they were both spoiled by us.
They were 7 and 10 when we got them..They each lived to be over 20!
They would have never lived that long in the shelter..Even though the " old ladies" fought all the time each was delightful in their own ways.
Wishing you the best..

We have kitties, but this touched my heart. Thank you for all of you who love senior dogs - and cats!
"Today, I walked into my local shelter and asked something most people never do: who is your oldest dog?The volunteer didn’t even need to look it up. He gave me a quiet, knowing sigh, picked up his keys, and guided me to the very last row of kennels. At the end, in a loud and sterile run, sat a 13-year-old Chihuahua.Small frame. Dull, time-worn coat. A little white face touched by age. His eyes slightly cloudy, yet still scanning. Still wishing. His information card told the rest.More than a hundred families had passed him by. They would slow down, notice the number thirteen, see how gently he moved… and then drift toward the bouncing puppies instead. He never barked to compete. He didn’t paw at the gate.He simply stood there.Waiting.Calmly.With quiet dignity. As though he still believed someone would choose him on purpose.People shy away from senior dogs. They fear the goodbye. They convince themselves there won’t be enough time to make it meaningful. But when they opened his kennel door today, I didn’t hesitate. He didn’t rush into my arms. He took one slow step forward… then another. He lifted his face toward mine and released the longest, softest breath.I knelt down on the cold floor. He came closer… shut his eyes… and rested his tiny head against my chest. He didn’t just lean.He surrendered.Like he had been bracing himself for years — and finally felt safe enough to let go.In that quiet moment, it felt like he was saying:“I’m tired. I’m ready. Thank you.”The ride home was still. Gentle. He didn’t tremble or pace. He curled into my lap as if he’d always belonged there. When we stepped inside, he didn’t wander the house. He found my legs. And pressed against them.Thirteen years old. A senior Chihuahua whose body moves slower now… but whose heart is still overflowing with love.He sleeps deeply. Securely. Close enough to finally rest without fear. There’s something profoundly humbling about an older dog — the gratitude for warmth, for softness, for a steady hand. It reshapes you.Senior dogs shouldn’t be forgotten. They deserve tenderness. They deserve respect. They deserve to finish their story wrapped in love.I may not have been there at the beginning. But I’m grateful to be here at the end.And he will never wait for love again."

@Jo1313 - Thank you for loving older kitties! This story is not my experience, but with a DH who's a veterinarian I've seen a lot. People who adopt older pets are truly special. They have big hearts. And I believe God chooses them to care for his special non-human ones. (((HUGS)))

What a wonderful story that made my day. You are such a special person and he is a very special dog to have you for it's owner. Sending you and your dog a big hug wrapped in angel wings.

A beatiful, touching story.
"He came closer… shut his eyes… and rested his tiny head against my chest" made my eyes moist. .Love is the most powerful force and due to kindness and caring, a gentle soul found his final and happy home.

@beach-mom Thank you for sharing this beautiful story and to all of you who adopt senior animals. ❤️🤗

Such a beautiful reminder to look beyond the kittens and puppies, thank you. When we decided to adopt cats that need a home part of it was because of our age, but the biggest part of it was due to the number of elder cats in need-often dumped and left to 'fend for self' in an unkind world
Thank you for this lovely post.
