If anyone isn't aware there is a new Elephant Sanctuary in Brazil with 2800 acres and they are poised to take all the elephants in South America from zoos and circuses.  The first two elephants arrived back in October and there are four that are being surrendered by a zoo that will be relocated there soon.  There are about 50 Elephants in South America that they hope will one day live at the sanctuary.

The sanctuary was created by one of the founders of the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee and his wife.  They plan to create other elephant sanctuaries in other continents and the one in Brazil is the first one.  It is an amazing, wonderful thing that they are doing giving these magnificent creatures their forever home.  I read the daily updates on facebook and it is truly remarkable work they are doing.  You can check it out on facebook by searching for Global Sanctuary for Elephants.  I bet you will fall in love with Maia and Guida (the first 2 elephants at the sanctuary) like I have. Please consider donating to this worthy cause as they are raising funds to finish building out the facilities so they can move more elephants there.  Also, if you aren't able to donate but you buy things from amazon you can go to smile <dot> amazon <dot> com instead of the usual amazon<dot> com and choose the Global Sanctuary for Elephants as your charity and Amazon will donate a proceed from your purchases to them.

Thank you for posting this wonderful news. I was already aware of it but the more people who know about this the better.

No animal belongs in a circus where they are inhumanely treated on a daily basis. So many zoos are well below "standards" and the precious animals suffer in those as well.

I love elephants. The abuse you see especially in circuses  is overwhelming. I hope they will do so for giraffes. I hear they are endangered now as well
