@NickNack You must be terribly worried.  Something doesn't seem right with how this is being handled by the vet....we wouldn't let a human spend 6 weeks vomiting but waiting to see if diet changes help.

I don't know much about dogs, but I would be looking for a second opinion.

That's just me....as I said, I don't have a dog.  I know you are devoted to your fur babies.

@alicedee   I just realized that you said that about waiting six weeks because the Vet said it could take six weeks for a prescription diet to work.  She didn't mean that we would wait six weeks before doing more testing.  Of course we will do an ultrasound and/or bloodwork soon if she continues throwing up.

Re: Ava's Follow-Up Vet Appointment

I have been one that researched foods,  bought the best i could, gave supplements ,gave them fresh beef,chicken, veggies,fruits, and they still got cancer, i just don't know what we are suppose to do ,and lots of love ,attention,exercise. I am not in favor of vaccines,except for puppy shots, and rabies ,but not rabies as the age.

Re: Ava's Follow-Up Vet Appointment

@NickNack

You are a good dog mama to Ava.

It seems that people expect the vet to wave a magic wand, or give a magic pill that will instantly cure all ills.

It doesn't work that way.

It takes time for the body to heal, and people don't seem to grasp that.

If the problem isn't solved by the time they leave the office, they deem the vet to be a quack.

One could take their fur baby to the best vet in the country, and run every test that exists, and use every treatment that is available, and still not be able to solve the problem.

That doesn't make them a bad vet.

Some problems just can't be fixed, and people have to understand that.

It sounds like both you and your vet are on top of this, and neither of you will let Ava suffer.

Bottom line is, you and your vet know Ava best. Nobody here does.

As long as you trust your vet implicitly to do what's best for Ava, that's all what really matters.

@NickNack

The same thing has happened to my cozi today.I am terrified.He is my life,my whole life........we have been inseperable for over 9 yrs.

He has been absolutely more than  fine and energetic all his life untill suddenly  last night at 8pm.

He got out of bed and pooped on his potty and then went  into the itchen to sleep.Never in 9 yrs did he EVER do that.He NEVER leaves me

I got him to come back but he hesitated on the stairs to get up,he seemed frightened or something,anyway that sort of continued all nite.In the mornig I awoke to find him in the kitchen.He didn't move at all. I thought he was dead! .I petted him  to see if he was alive but he opened his eyes but didn't move.Extremly unusual!  I felt his legs body everything all was ok but he quivered as I touched his tummy. He never moved from there untill around noon. I fed him and he did eat,he went outside and pooped. I got him to the vet.Blood work ,xrays,ect $800  waiting for  expert reading results tomorrow. Blood shows anemia ???? how???He eats well! Blue Buffalo all his life. Today xray shows his kidneys are being pushed to the side a bit or lifted or sonething,liver did't look too well either he may have a mass  the vet said awaiting expert to look at them...I am beside myself with fear.......

Please keep Cozi in your prayers.

Re: Ava's Follow-Up Vet Appointment

I keep reading how Ava is doing and it keeps reminding me of my Casey, especially the good one day and next day not. There was nothing they could find and only 1 number in the labs was even off. It has been too long  and I don't remember which one -so even bloodwork did not help us.

I took her to a holistic vet on a recommendation and she said it sounded like the very beginning of pancreatitis-everything wrong but tests say all is right.. Had me feed her boiled skinless chicken and rice for 4 days then either go to home made foods or the prescription low fat like your vet has Ava started on. The chicken/rice was just to give her a faster start on healing. It was a rough first week or two but like your vet said it takes time for her body to heal. You are already started on that so hope all gets bettter.

@MalteseMomma   I am so very sorry to hear about Cozi.  I can tell how scared you are.  I would be, too.  I understand about pets being everything to you.  I will definitely keep you and Cozi in my prayers.  Please let us know as you get the results back.

Re: Ava's Follow-Up Vet Appointment

[ Edited ]

I ended up taking Ava back to the Vet today.  I tried to give her a Cerenia pill for nausea, and she kept spitting the pill pocket out.  Then I took the pill and pushed it down her throat and she threw up.  I took her in for a Cerenia injection and fluids and to discuss other things.

The Vet gave her a Cerenia injection, fluids under the skin and did blood work.  She just had blood work when I got her four months ago, but she repeated it to see if anything had changed.  She also added a test for pancreatitis.

I will have the ultrasound done, too, but it has to be done at a specialty clinic.  My Vet has an ultrasound machine, but it isn't new like the one at the specialty Vet and can't do as comprehensive a test.  The specialty Vet has someone who does this all the time.  I hope I can get that scheduled soon.  Someone will call me.

Re: Ava's Follow-Up Vet Appointment

@MalteseMomma  I will be praying that Cozi gets better. I can empathize with you about your dog  being everything. Keep us posted.

@NickNack  I know you are doing everything to help Ava. I have been there and done that. It is hard not knowing which way to turn. I have taken my dog to specialists to find the cause. I will pray that the Ava gets well. It is a hard road to travel. Keep us updated.
