Does anyone actually know what that "indentation" actually Is?  I don't recall ever seeing something like that, but I wasn't looking for it, so who knows?

Are you referring to the "hooded" area the dog is sleeping in?  I would assume it's a shaded/hooded IP (Instrument panel).

Oh, duh ..... It's inside the car .... I originally thought this was on the outside of the car.   It didn't make sense OR seem aerodynamically efficient.
