And our dogs weren't even sick (thank goodness).

We took both dogs to the vet for their ProHeart shot,

a wellness check (just an exam) and Bravecto.  We need

pet insurance!  Holy Moly.

@monicakm Isn't it unbelievable? I had to take Fred for another check on his hip (x-ray), Anna needed a steroid shot and more zyrtec, and little Baby needed a check-up for her relentless hunger and weightloss. . . Almost $800 with the bloodwork and medication and Baby stayed overnight.

Re: $329 Vet Bill

[ Edited ]

@monicakm   Most pet insurance only covers sick visits and not wellness exams and preventatives.

It is also expensive and goes up as the pets gets older.

Veterinary care is super expensive.  Pretty soon only rich people will be able to afford pets.

I paid $1100 for a dental on a 14 lb dog.

Even good pet food is expensive.  But, we love them, so we pay.

I checked MetLife.  It would cost me $84 a month for pet insurance with a $250 deductible, 20% copay with a max payout of $5000 for my 5 year old dog with no preX health conditions.

No thanks...as I said it is expensive.  It is more affordable for puppies, but goes up every year as they age.

I used to have it on two dogs.  I carried it for a few years, but then it got too expensive, so I dropped it.

2 ways we save a little on our 2 doxies: we started buying Kirkland at Costco ( approx 60% of similar Science Diet) and we use Care Credit for bills over $250 ( no interest over 6 months to 2 years; depending on size of bill).

@tessam

YIKES!  I don't know where you live but I think I'm glad I don't live there.  We've had both our dogs fixed but I don't remember the costs so I Googled how much it costs (now) for male and female (and their weights) for the state of TX.  $175 (for 60+lbs) and that includes surgery, the e-collar and pain meds.

Thanks for the info.

@patbz

I am not a jealous person except when I hear/read of someone's Costco.  Why oh why can't we get a Costco where we shop?  Costco and Trader Joe's (sigh).

@monicakm : I live 3 hrs from nearest Costco but we go every month.Today we spent $400 on food. Sams is 2 hours away but we frequently order case lots of canned food as well as all paper products: they deliver orders over $50 for free. In 42 years of marriage we've never been closer to either of these stores than 2 hrs each way.
