Do You know if it has to be Belgian waffle Mix, or can any waffle batter be used in a Belgian Waffle Maker?

I've already tried a few methods. I've made the one that Blue Jean Chef has, I've used the Bisquick recipe, and I used a "complete" box mix that just needs water.

And for ME, I can honestly say that the just add water one was BY FAR the best. It's a complete box mix for pancakes but I tried it on a whim and I definitely like it best and that's what I will use from here on out I think.

Did a lot of research when I as looking for a waffle maker and watched some You Tube videos. I chose the Breville Smart Waffle Maker. Not inexpensive, but worth every penny.

Kodiak Cakes and waffle mix make the best waffles. They work well in both my regular and Belgian waffle makers, both of which are over 40 yrs. old. Kodiak mix is available at dome grocery stores. I think I got mine at Mejers, but have seen it at others .

I'll add to this thread that I have a large George Foreman grill with removable waffle trays. Don't go there! The waffles end up dry and unevenly cooked, dark around the edges, raw in the middle. I have a cheap generic waffle maker I bought years ago that makes far better waffles.

I TOO HAVE A Waring Pro, and Krusteaz makes a waffle mix, and it makes delicios waffles. I make a lot ahead, freeze them then put them in my toaster to heat. I saw there was one on sunday, but looked like a mess to clean. David was putting the waffle mix down a shute, and I was cringing, saying that is going to be impossible to clean. I got my Pro from QVC a while back.

Re: waffle makers

I have a vintage stove top Griswold cast iron waffle iron. Love that thing. Not even interested in one of those nonstick electric ones.

I don't use a mix, it takes two seconds to make waffle batter from scratch with real ingredients.

mothertrucker,

The Q has a Waring Pro Rotating Belgium Waffle maker at a reduced price of $41 and change plus s/h.  I checked prices on other websites and this is the best deal.  I was going to purchase the CE one but it's plastic while the Waring is stainless steel.  Also, it comes with a measuring cup, tongs, and a spatula, none of which I need but the other websites offer only the waffle maker at a higher price without the extras.  Sometimes the Q has the best price.  I love waffles so am going to make this purchase.  To all who love waffles ENJOY!!1  docsgirl

You think you won't use the tongs andmeasuringcup, but I bet you will! Enjoy! I love To make gingerbread waffles with tart lemon sauce and cornbread waffles which I cover with Chili!
