Hi tiny 2, you recommended a Carex pill splitter on Amazon to cut the little blood pressure pills for my cat. I found one for $5.98, but then I found one that says Pill Splitter by Carex-Apex Medical Corp for $13.23. The first one is clear blue, the second one looks like a solid color blue. Do you happen to remember how much you paid for the one you got? That might tell me which one I need to try. Thanks so much!

As a nurse my recommendation to you is to be certain the one you buy has a little v shape where it holds the pill then a sort of guillotine blade you pull down to cut the pill. Where I worked they were a solid blue plastic.
if you don't have that little v shape you wont get an accurate cut.

You can buy pill splitters (cutters) at almost any pharmacy. They are relatively inexpensive and all of them work well. I use them for DH's meds every day and no problem with the one I think I paid three or four dollars for last year.

Thanks for your replies. I have one that is plastic and the two little pieces that form the "V" are like rubber. I'd had it for a while and thought maybe the blade might be dull, so I bought a new one like it, and it just shreds the pill. Even though I make sure the pill is right in the center and get down and look to see where the blade is coming down (it looks like it's right in the center) and it still seems to cut sideways-one piece is bigger than the other and there are some crumbs. I took the new one back, because the old one seemed to work better. But the pills are so small (they're people pills and I have to cut them in quarters), that they just don't seem to work. The one tiny2 recommended is basically the same but she said the one she got doesn't shred the pills.
If you know of any particular one that I could try, I'll appreciate any help I can get.

Sorry, They do not all work well, particularly when you are cutting a quarter of a small tablet. I tried pretty much everything available at the pharmacies. KittymomNC, It is the Carex . I paid 5.98.

I just cut some tiny pills. I bought my pill cutter at CVS. It is excellent! When you look for one, make sure the small blade is thin and sharp.
