Neither are 'new' ways to cook. Renewed maybe. The ninja is basically a fancy crockpot and pressure cookers have been around for at least 30 years, they're just electric now and free up your stove.

Re: guess I'm missing the newest way of cooking!

I'm single, I don't have kids, so I have time to cook. I don't need my food to be cooked fast.

I love my LC. I have a crock pot and have just gotten into crock pot cooking in the last couple of years (my mother never used a crock pot). It's not my favorite way to cook, but it's good for some recipes. I've made 3 that are outstanding and will be made again.

And, as stated above, I freeze extra. I do cut down the really large recipes (Ina Garten's recipes are usually enough to serve 20 normal people!) but I still don't want to eat 5-6 servings in the same week, so my Food Saver gets a workout.

Re: guess I'm missing the newest way of cooking!

Real estate in the majority of kitchens needs to be thought out carefully! It is great that we can do what we wish.

Personally the Ninja 3 way (4?) cooking system , an electric pressure cooker, and a Nu Wave like appliance this summer has been a treasure for us to not heat up the kitchen and still have home cooked food. I like that they are timed also. I have a tendency to forget to check on long cooking stovetop dishes while I go outdoors, so these appliances keep me from burning my house down or at least ruining a dish! I have had a Montel Williams pressure cooker for 3 years now and still use my stove top presto for quick cooking of greens and other vegetables (3-5 minutes). I do not use a crock pot much unless I will be away from home for several hours as I HATE to smell the same thing cooking for a LONG time. It can be great to come home to though.

I like a steamed chicken from the Ninja even better than ones from the deli/grocery.

I will use my regular oven more with cold weather.

Like other posters I like to freeze in individual portions items like mashed potatoes and maybe a second easy casserole for quick prep next month.

Re: guess I'm missing the newest way of cooking!

There is room for it all! I have a big collection of All-Clad and Le Creuset I've accumulated over 25 years, plus I would HATE to have to be without my microwave, rice cooker and VitaMix. I use it all and it makes food prep so much easier. We cook from scratch almost every day.

I think from what I've read, Mark Bittman's newest cookbook (should be out ANY day, is very much the way we cook. Lots of spices, lots of things that make meals faster, and prep along the way. I have slow cooker and pressure cooker and use them sometimes and they are great, but I could easily live without them. Microwave and rice cooker? No!!!! Would hate to give up the bread machine as well! We use it once or twice a week.

Well with pressure cookers I'd have to say it's way more that 30 yrs. I'm over half a century old and my mom had one. They just died out for a while because of the safety issues with the old stove top ones. That and the increased popularity of premade frozen meals and fast food joints.

My DM hardly ever used her pressure cooker. I don't have one, and don't need or want one. I actually do not cook all that much, and it's only us two, and we like what we like. I'm very Smiley Happy with my George Foreman and slow cooker!

I'm so glad I read your post. I don't use my PC that much. The crockpot more than not. But we don't eat as much now. I will keep my PC but, only use it for rare things.

Re: guess I'm missing the newest way of cooking!

I have neither a pressure cooker nor a crock pot. When I need to slow cook something I do it in the oven. However, I am home to do this; some are not.

I have a Le Creuset set also. My casserole buffets and dutch oven get lots of use.

There's always going to be something new; an appliance, cookware or a technique. That doesn't mean you have to jump on it.

Get your flu shot...because I didn't.

Re: guess I'm missing the newest way of cooking!

Thanks for this post, you saved me some money for the new cookbook. That Ninja takes up way too much counter space. To me its just an update on current ways to cook. So are low pressure-pressure cookers, pressure ovens, etc. The only new thing I might be interested in is a convection oven if my stove ever needs replacing.
