I have several glass cutting boards I bought at least 5 or 6 years ago I think from Valerie (you got several together, one is a Swann).

I have them on my kitchen counter where I place hot stuff.

I don't use them to cut with. You'd never know it if you saw my house (remember the old saying, "Yes it's dirt, but it's my dirt"). That's me.

I use a plate to cut with. That way I know the plate is clean. I use it to cut on and then I put it in the dishwasher. Period. It's clean.

Du-uh, why didn't I think of that??? {#emotions_dlg.w00t} Good use for my over sized glass cutting board that I hate cutting on, so it's been languishing on the baker's rack.

I like wood for veggies and such, and the antibacterial poly ones for raw meats, etc. that goes into the dishwasher.

I don't like glass cutting boards at all. As stated above, they're very bad for your knives. I have one large acrylic board, for working with raw meat, and several sizes of wood cutting boards. I treat them every so often with food grade mineral oil to keep the wood conditioned. My favorite acquisition was a Boos Board that I purchased about a year ago. I always wanted a thick, professional wooden cutting board and that one is it.

Back in my day of renting I moved into a duplex unit that had a very bad burn on the Formica counter top. The only thing that I could find to cover the area was a large red tinted glass cutting board. I bring it out for holidays for carving the turkey now but that is the only time it is used. For quick dicing I like to save the thin plastic? sheet that is under bacon. They wash well and you can toss when you open a new package of bacon.

My husband is a knife freak (sounds scarier than it really is). He loves high-quality ones. If I were even to mention a glass cutting board, I'd be afraid of what he might do with one of those knives. {#emotions_dlg.scared}{#emotions_dlg.lol}

I don't like the glass boards for all the reasons mentioned. LOVE my knives. I prefer the antibacterial plastic ones.

No glass, bad for knives and the sound when chopping drives me nuts!

Speaking of the sound - I remember when they used to present these glass cutting boards on QVC and they would pick up the boards and drop them down on the counter or all the way to the floor. O-MG, it made a shrieking sound that would cut through my brain like a dull knife. I always had to change the channel during those presentations.

Thanks, everyone. I guess mine will remain a bookend...and maybe occasionally a hot pad/trivet. Smile
