Your favorite kitchen tools

I invested in quality German knives many years ago, but last night, as I was making spaghetti, I realized that some of my favorite kitchen tools did not cost a lot of money. I used spring-loaded tongs to stir the pasta, and a microplane zester to grate cheese. These cost less than $15 and yet are the real workhorses of my kitchen. What are your favorites?
