I firmly belive the Deep South delicacy,  grits, should stay in the Deep South and not be allowed to leave.

Hey @Kachina624 - I'M a grit - Girls Raised In The South! LOL!

My mom made grits for my dad every morning. I preferred Raisin Bran!

But I still love them and eat them. I like mine plain with a little butter on top (OK - Smart Balance most of the time).

DH had never even heard of them when we were married. But then he is a "northerner"!  He is not that crazy about them.

I'm going to post one of our favorite recipes in the Recipe forum. I often make it for potlucks.  Smiley Happy

Well, OK, the pit is sorta cream color (I peeled it, thinking you ate it)...but I was expecting seeds  like a papaya (!!!)

@Desertdi - Oh, I see—so did you cut all the way through the pit? It's dark brown on the outside, but I think the inside is lighter. Anyway, it's always an adventure when you try something new.  Smiley Happy

I should probably mention that this was 1960's Chicago.   "Tropical" fruit was not a grocery store mainstay.

I worked in The Loop, and bought it in the Marshall Field & Co  "gourmet food" section....
