I am thinking because it is not returnable.  Or I should say... I bought something and something was not quite right with it.  I called and they said toss it out.  Got full refund.  Might be they expect something might happen and they don't want it back so those who do keep products... pay for it.... perhaps at a higher rate to cover what might happen to them or others.

I think you could be right.

Also - People apparently are paying these prices, so QVC has no incentive to lower them.  Price is determined by what the market will bear.  If they can sell things for more money, that's exactly what they're going to do.  It would be poor business practice not to do so.

Re: Why are all the food items so high??

The Q's prices are overpriced beyond the cost of convenience and shipping/handling being added in.

Having said that, as long as there are people willing to pay the prices that the Q overcharges for items and not do due diligence on current prices, then the Q will continue to price them accordingly. It's up to the individual to determine whether or not they want to pay it - or can afford to.

Re: Why are all the food items so high??

We don't buy a lot of food from Q, but occasionally something comes along that looks good enough to try.  We've had good luck with some, and some not so good.  We ordered the Kansas City Steak sirloins that were herb crusted.  The rosemary was piled on so thick it had to be scraped off with a knife and the meat tasted like you were eating perfume.  Got a refund on that one.

We've gotten all three steaks from Rastellis, the sirloin, ribeye, and flatiron.  The best tasting of the three was, surprisingly, the sirloin.  The ribeyes were just so-so, and the flatirons, advertised as "one step below filet mignon", were tough as leather and not very tasty.

I've ordered the pot stickers, cinnamon rolls, Cheryl's cookies and St. Clair side dishes.  I do like the pot stickers, but Trader Joe's are just as good and much less expensive.  I also liked the cinnamon rolls but not enough to order them again.  Cheryl's Cookies are okay, but not any better than what you can buy at the grocery store.  I thought the St. Clair side dishes were horrible.  I ordered four of them, sweet potatoes, macaroni & cheese, cornbread dressing and something else.  I threw most of it away.

I ordered the turkey with 2 St. Clair sides, and the sides were terrible. I actually dumped the Mac and cheese, and in this house that is unheard of. It was so greasy and the dressing just tasted like onions. The turkey was delicious, I wish they would sell it alone.

Re: Why are all the food items so high??

Haven't read all the posts, so apologies if this duplicates someone else's comment.

From what I've read here, if you get a food item, eat it, and don't like it, you can call up QVC and tell them and they'll credit your account for the item, no return needed (or possible, I'd think). That also goes for food that arrives spoiled.

That is a HUGE potential cost, a complete loss to them except for the feedback that something was substandard or arrived bad or whatever. Frankly, I'd rather that cost be built into the price of the food items than spread across everything else. They doubtless have a tightly worked algorithm that apportions X% of the markup to cover these losses.

Re: Why are all the food items so high??

The cost of shipping must be quite high especially on items that have to be kept frozen/cold.   Also, many of the items are packaged individually or in twos.  That must increase the cost too.      I purchased the Jr.'s mini cheesecakes for gifts a few years ago.  No one mentioned that they liked them and now they are several dollars more so I won't be ordering again.  The other day they had the sugar free and said they have no ingredients that will cause stomach issues.  I was thinking of ordering until they mentioned "Xyletol."    That does cause issues.

Any time you see the words "Sugar Free", check the ingredients.  Chances are you'll see Xyletol, Maltitol, and a couple of others.  These are alcohol sugars.  They're absorbed into the bloodstream slower than regular sugars, but they're still sugar nontheless.
