Growing up, I remember real whipped cream and a packet beaten into milk called "Dream Whip".
My stepgrand mother whom was an angel, used Cool Whip a lot. All pies had something on top, bless her!
What do you remember?![]()

that good ol' red can of ReddiWip always meant we were getting a treat at our house.
we loved it on top of strawberry shortcake.

I remember Dream Whip in the package. My grandmother would beat it with an old metal hand cranked "egg beater". Then my mother had an electric mixer and made Dream Whip and real whipped cream. The Rediwhip can and Cool Whip came later as I remember it.
My mother and father would always bicker about the amount of sugar in real whipped cream. He liked very little sugar and my Mom wanted more. Family tradition ![]()
I always have a tub of Cool Whip Lite in my freezer.

We never had Cool Whip while growing up in our house, but was always had Dream Whip and a can of real whipped cream.
I remember whipping up a pack of Dream Whip to top Jello for dessert.
I also would mix cottage cheese, a box of dry Jello and ready made Dream Whip and a can of fruit for an easy dessert. My favorite was orange jello and pineapple.

@Kachina624 I never knew there was a recipe for this. It was just something made up when I was a kid. I begged my mom for cottage cheeses and didn't like it all that much and wanted to change the flavor. You didn't throw food away back then.
Sometimes I used cherry or lime jello and fruit cocktail. My family liked it, so ai continued to make it. I didn't dump mine and stir. I used an electric mixer.
I thought I invented something new. LOL It looks like Virginia had the same idea.

@Carmie. That recipe came from the Houston Chronicle about 40+ years ago. They had a wonderful food section and published a weekly "favorite" recipe. This one was it one week.
