Re: Whats cooking in this new month of march?

DH and I are leaving around 10:00AM for an afternoon concert in a different time zone.   Some friends will also be there.  We'll be going to dinner with another couple afterwards unless we get a larger group together.  Not sure where we're eating or what I'll order.

Re: Whats cooking in this new month of march?

DH and I are in DC watching our granddog for the weekend while DD and her roommate go camping.  We are having dinner at one of our favorite restaurants Zatinya.  It is a Turkish, Greek and Lebanese restaurant owned by Jose Andres who is the founder of World Central Kitchen.  We also like his Spanish restaurant Jaleo that is here in DC and also at Disney Springs.

The dog is a nervous wreck as they are remodeling the apartment upstairs and the workers are noisy.  She is a very sensitive dog who takes Prozac regularly for her anxiety.  DD was headed north to go camping and we should have had her leave the dog at our house instead of us coming here.

Re: Whats cooking in this new month of march?

Good afternoon everyone. Its nice out and 60 out.last night was leftovers and the fruit plus zapolas. I had cereal for breakfast. We told Anna not to cook today. We had a 1 o'clock appointment to have our taxes done. Better than Last night. We had to pay federal taxes and got a small amount back from state incomtax. This year we got back pretty good money back. I didn't want to go out ful! From lunch so we ordered chinese food. Road working from home and I'm doing 3 loads of laundry. A load of whites, colored clothes and and next a load of white clothes. My brothers girl friends said washing a load of  white clothes is obsolete. I'm like so it isn't Anna and I both do white clothes on separatly.she puts white stuff with colored clothes. Have a wonderful rest of the weekend everyone.

We had a ribeye, Yukon gold roasted potatoes and steamed broccoli last night.  Not sure what's on the menu tonight.  Maybe chicken fajitas.  I'm making a banana cream pie for dessert.

Re: Whats cooking in this new month of march?

We ended up at a small town dive yesterday.  I had a bunless bacon cheeseburger.  It was something to eat but not good by any means, dry and flavorless.

DS and the kid will be her this afternoon.  I have grassfed NY strip steaks thawing in the fridge.  DH and I struggle to eat a whole 12 oz. steak so we'll split one.  I'll make a tossed salad and green beans too.

Re: Whats cooking in this new month of march?

I wanted to go out for brunch this morning but the restaurant I wanted to go to was booked.  So we got take out from there instead.  It is a Filipino restaurant and I had ube pancakes with macapuno syrup.  You probably know that ube is a purple sweet potato but macapuno is a mutant coconut that has a jelly like interior.

Re: Whats cooking in this new month of march?

Our dinner last night was a welcomed improvement over Saturday night's.  We had some rain into the evening but nothing major.  It's a little overcast here this morning but dry.  Today is my skip day so DH is one his own for lunch.

Re: Whats cooking in this new month of march?

[ Edited ]

Yesterday I made a stuffed cabbage casserole. I've made it a handful of times before, but this time it was very disappointing and we both decided that I won't be making it again. It seems I've been doing a lot of that lately.

Tonight I'm making linguini with clam sauce.  Don't cringe, but I'm using canned clams!  I also have a package of stuffed clams from Aldi in my freezer that I've been waiting to try.

A friend of mine gave me a book called "What If". The idea is that you record everything your family will need to know when you pass on.  I've been putting off dealing with it for some months now, but this week I'm going to get it completed. I know it sounds macabre, but it's important to me that my kids know what to do when they are inevitably in that situation.

No, thanks for asking but  I haven't gone to Bread Becker's.  I've started ordering from a company called Palouse Brand and I'm very happy with it. It's also "certified glyphosate free", which is the chemical I most need to avoid when cooking for my son.

I've been very successful baking bread with the fresh milled flour. It's a bit more labor intensive, but not much, and the IBS I've dealt with for years is now completely gone.  It makes me wonder how much our doctors are missing when it comes to diet and disease.
