Re: What's the ONE thing I should buy at Trader Joe's?

I tried the coconut cookies from France on your recommendation, DiAnne. They're crunchy, flavorful little treats that are sweet but not overly so. Thank you!

Their frozen French onion soup is very good, and reasonably priced. Unlike most items, it's not Trader Joe's brand, so may be available elsewhere. And, I certainly wouldn't recommend their produce. It rarely looks good and is often priced higher than the supermarket. Maybe that's because we're on the East Coast and their produce has to come a long way.

That's interesting. We're in Southern California and the produce is excellent and well priced for the most part. I've often wondered about the differences across the country. We also have a lot of prepared fresh foods that are made in Pasadena, not far from us, and they are generally speaking excellent quality, if not always my particular favorite combinations.

So, among other things, the opinions vary greatly according to locale. What is good in one region is not necessarily good in another. Maybe we should identify our locales both when asking and answering the questions. {#emotions_dlg.ohmy}

I had shopped at Trader Joe's for many years in Southern California. I now live in Washington State and while I was happy when they opened here and still shop there - things changed after they were bought by a conglomerate (I think from Germany). Up here Whole Foods and Metropolitan Market have much better produce.

I am glad you like them. I try so hard to walk past them - I have been known to polish off that bag on the way home!!
