Re: What's cooking this fine February at your house?

Soushi, I have the same attack on this crockpot/slow cooker I have now. I like it but have found I have to cook things on high. High says it takes 4 hours - wrong - takes about 8. When I put it on low it is suppose to take 6 hours - wrong - still takes longer. I can't complain as it is somewhat lightweight and the real heavy ones take an effort for me to lift - and really do when they are full - or to clean them. The one I have is a GE - I loved the small Nenso ones i got from the Q - may break down and buy another one of those but this one is similar in appearance and size but those Nensco's cooked things just right.

Another very chilly morning and as I woke up about 11 and could not go back to sleep right away - not until about 3 - I "overslept" a tad this morning. Wish I could figure out why I do that but cannot complain as it use to be almost every night and it is not that any longer. Suppose to warm up a tad today however.

Went to the monthly potluck yesterday at the mobile home park that Miss Mary - the tough, but adorable 90 year old lives - invites me to. I just cannot figure out what to take however. People seem to like and eat what I bring but it seems I bring way too much back home. One couple always brings a ton of fried chicken and that seems to disappear quickly. Not a lot of food but do wish they would eat more. Last month I thought I had a success with macaroni salad - WRONG - brought most home. Someone suggested I just bring some apple sauce - I thought sounds weird but most people like that so brought it in the individual cups. Well I brought most of that home also. LOL. Another lady always brings a whipped cream/fruit salad and it all disappears so do not want to infringe on that. Goodness me, decisions, decisions, decisions.

All the critters have had their morning routines and Stripes is already back outside to check out the neighborhood. LOL. He was a good boy again last night and came in with no problem when he decided to come back home - a tad after dark.

Hope all have a great day! Soushi, you are right, sometimes you just have to say something when food or service is not up to par. Unfortuantely, one never knows the reaction you might get however.

I'm going to make some home made vegetable soup. I cook it all day long. I get teased because I use Filet Mignon for the meat.

I could eat it at every meal.

When my husband was alive I'd make him things like Oyster Stew. He'd heat the Oysters and I'd mainly eat the milky stew.

So many things I used to make for him.

Annabellethecat, my husband loves raw oysters, not me. Your soup sounds wonderful. We both love soup. Good cooking.

Re: What's cooking this fine February at your house?

My dinner was leftovers from last night - roast, baby carrots, collards and potatoes cooked with the roast. Can't do any better than that. Still have enough for at least one more full meal and probably enough roast left for a sandwich - it will wait for a day or so however.

Tomorrow is the luncheon at Church for we old coots - we do not have to bring a dish as it is Valentine's Day and they furnish all the food. Can't beat that.

Had my followup today with my eye MD for the laser work done a couple weeks ago - everything a ok. Thursday is an appointment with my primary MD - not real sure why I am going but they set the appointment. LOL. Guess I will find out. My ele MD says he will not be coming in my area again and will practice full time in Redlands. Am not happy about that - as he comes here two days a week. He said they have so many new patients he now has to stay in Redlands. He said THEY would call me with an appointment for next year - I was not to call. Guess that is to tell me when and where.

Stripes bugged me last night, he just would not get close to me but I went out AGAIN about 7:30 and he was fast asleep on top of the freezer - that darn cat drives me insane. He was ready to come in then and a good thing as I was ready for bed.

Spent a little while outside earlier and got some of the weeds up - still along way to go. The breeze was again chilly although the temps were somewhere around 75. Have a hard time dealing with chilly wind gusts.

Hope all had a great day. So sad to lose Shirley Temple. Golly I am just NOT in tune with most of today's "stars" - and when we lose a great one, I find it sad.

Re: What's cooking this fine February at your house?

Evening,

Having a big rain storm with lightening and thunder. Wish I could send it to you Winifred.

We took a dolphin tour today and had to cut it short due to incoming storm. BUT we did get to see several dolphins very close to the boat. Drove home in the rain with slow traffic. Glad to be home and finally dry.

Stopped for late lunch. I had fish and chips, DH had raw oysters and clam chowder (don't read this part, Winifred) We have this favorite place for seafood. Always good, plenty of it, at a good price.

Best to all.

Re: What's cooking this fine February at your house?

Last night I did not fix any dinner as I was so stuffed from the luncheon I did not need anything. Must admit however I did snack on some Ritz roasted veggie crackers - they are really good. It was a noon breakfast, eggs with jalapenas - I would call it a souffle and it was really good. Fruit, biscuits, sausage, gravy (a bit rich for me, not like good old country gravy), great fried red skinned potatoes and tons of dessert and yogurt. Last month it started very very late and yesterday it was late again - a good 15 minutes. Have no clue but it sure spoils things as everyone was ready except the lady who is the hostess - she was running around chatting. Forgot to mention, very good entertainment on the Keyboard. The gentleman is a retired police office and a master on the keyboard and he sings super well also. Good time but it just ran a bit too long. I ditched the last 15 minutes as I was tired of sitting - of course the music program had concluded as I would never miss any of that.

Had to buy a new computer keyboard yesterday, always something - but lucked out as Staples had them on sale for $9.99. It is their brand and works well but is a tad deeper than my old one so am having trouble getting use to a few keys I use on the right hand. Think I will have to have the light on for a while until I get use to it as garbage pops up as I just go typing without looking for the keys. {#emotions_dlg.huh} That difference in the size - and only a small difference - sure makes a difference when you are use to one keyboard for a long time.

Hey it was quite warm yesterday - nights still chilly but last night I did not absolutely freeze. This morning Brian is coming over to mow - he is suppose to mow on Wednesdays but was out of town - he forgot to tell me. Hmn. Curves, then I will zip down the freeway to my MD - we shall see just why he actually scheduled this appointment. It was done after I had completed my last visit.

Well I woke up during the night and could not sleep so turned on the TV. Now I have a problem. Tell me how you lose a remote when you are IN BED using it? Cannot find that thing. Only me. Have to get dressed, will have time for one load of clothes to be washed and then must look for the remote again. I don't think Conrad or Miss Blackie ate it but I cannot find it. I guess I will have to take all the covers off and put them back on one at a time. Geesh.

Have a great day everyone and Soushi, I did ignore part of your food menu for yesterday.

Re: What's cooking this fine February at your house?

I'm just going to post this

Well just got home from the airport after doing my Military Meet, very traumatic for me, tho I hope I did not show it, I had 6, yes six, paraplegics with prosthesis, one also had only 1/2 an arm, one had a glass eye, they had their own wheel chairs, basketball wheelchairs, I've never seen one before, they were going to a championship game in Louisville. They were unbelievably good natured & very independent, I had one of those airline carts waiting, they refused, said they would use their chairs, (we had to go from T1 to T2, probably a 10-15 minute walk for most, but they were insistent, I did hold it together but came close a few times, just turned my head so they wouldn't see. A super bunch of guys, we are so blessed that these young men give so much for all of us.
When I got the paper work, I thought OMG 6, what will I do, ran into one of the big muckety mucks with TSA, he said not to worry, there was a TSA officer at the gate, said he was sent to help me escort, he was a big help, as we had pit stops & food stops, etc (we only had 2 hours between flights) I thanked each one separately for their service & then the tears did flow, I wished them a safe flight & a win game. They were so appreciative for the special treatment they received but in reality it was me that felt special doing it.
Sorry to ramble on but this has moved me tremendously
Hugs to all & please remember them in your prayers
Take Care

Re: What's cooking this fine February at your house?

Spix - I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOO PROUD OF YOU!!!!!! Coming from a military family that has lost loved ones in WWII and Vietnam and a couple with injuries they survived and just the fact they have served - people like you deserve a big hug!!!! I wish I could have done something like that. Your gesture of kindness - and others like you - will long be remembered. I am excited as next month I will be going to Palm Springs where an organization will have gift cards, lunch and many other things to show appreciation to the wives of current military personnel. Am really looking forward to it - I have agreed to be a hostess but not sure yet just what is expected of me - am sure I will be told! My father would love to have met you and given you a salute. He fought in WWII, Korea and Vietnam and made it home - we buried him on his 90th birthday - he was such a gentle soul but such a strong career military officer.

Am going to warm up some of that roast beef and collards - may cut up an avocado as they are going South on me - only have two left but do not want to lose them.

Hey people it got up into the upper 80s today. Lots of temp records set today in our area but not where I am - guess we have had it hotter before. My clothes dried rapidly on the line today.

Well with leave you all with a really dumb statement. Went to my MD appointment this morning - in another city - and was told my appointment is tomorrow morning! That's a first for me. {#emotions_dlg.closedeyes}
