Good early morning to one and all. Welcome to all the newer posters - always good to see you here and hope you continue to come back with what's cooking at your home. So enjoy seeing what everyone does in the kitchen. The rest of you, as usual, are continuing to fix some fine foods. The children are still here but it was a strenuous day. Left home very early, traffic these days on our freeways have become unbearable and yesterday was no difference. Left the courthouse a little after two - yep we had to come back after lunch - and by the time I did my follow up travels and battling traffic AGAIN, I got home after 4 in the afternoon. That was so strenuous. They have rescheduled another hearing in late February - that does not mean they will leave anyone alone however. I think the Judge was smart enough to see through a lot of trivia writing and behavior. So I need to brace for a lot of unexpected visits and phone calls.

Was 10 here yesterday - another record high for that date. Today it will be "cooler" and only get into the "low" 90s. We shall see.

Am aiming to fix some black eyed peas -- with cornbread however. Easy to cook as I can put them on and they basically cook themselves for a while - cornbread will take a little time but no big deal. Probably will have some sliced tomatoes with it - that is that - good ole Southern cooking.

Have a great day one and all and thank you so much for your kind and concerned thoughts.

@Winifred  Wonderful news!  I am so happy the children are still with you, but I can imagine how stressful it is to always be at the ready, so to speak, never knowing when someone will show up, then having to go through another hearing and so soon, but all I can say and you will agree, the children are worth it, hope it all doesn't affect your health. Smiley Happy

Re: What's Cooking in October 2017 - trying to get month correct

Yesterday, I made a marinara sauce with onions, oregano, and ground turkey, never use ground beef.  At the end, I added a container of basil from the freezer, just the kick it needed.  I saved a container for the freezer.  The spaghetti will make one or two more meals for DH, so two nights I won't have to cook.

As soon as there is room in the freezer, I am going to make vats of sauce, with and without meat, for those busy decorating and baking days ahead that I won't want to cook.  I also will be making a vat of my green soup for the freezer, so good and healthy, but it is an all day affair, prepping, cooking long and low, cooling, then adding to containers and freezing.

Tonight will be leftover grilled pork tenderloin tacos with sauteed onions, and peppers from the garden, with avocado on top.

Good Evening Guys-----it has been dreary and overcast for a second day

and I am ready for the sun to make an appearance.

It is hard to believe that the month is almost over. We have never had a trick or treater in all the decades we have lived here. I guess the fact that we live in a virtual barricaded fort makes it an unappealing destination. LOL

After my failed sandwich last night, I wanted an early and good dinner. I defrosted some sea scallops and pan seared them making a little vermouth, butter, lemon, parsley sauce. Had roasted Brussel sprouts and rice with them....delicious.

The news of yesterday , @Winifred, is short term good news but you must feel like you have a sword hanging over your head. I noticed that you posted around 5:00 am , your time, which leads me to believe you didn't sleep that well. Take care of yourself, please.

@Pooky1----offering to do my laundry if I lived closer was very nice but probably not wise. Don't forget that in a few months I will be back in Westerly and it's only about an hours drive to your town. You'll see a crazy person, with a basket of dirty clothes on the roof of her car, cruising the streets yelling "POOKY" out the window !

@mousiegirl----I swear you have no culinary boundaries. I am going to remove the Ragu labels and tell myself I made the sauce. Bet you ate all the cauliflower, too. Boo-Hoo !

I think I am driving to Connecticut this weekend. One of my favorite food stores is Stew Leonard's and I have been dying for whole belly fried clams so the trip can be a twofer. The only thing you can get in the NY/NJ area is clam strips which, IMO, are not edible.

Special Hi to @RedTop and @marky--------hope your respective beans and pot roast were as yummy as they sound.

@mousiegirl------ME, TOO .

When I was growing up we would go quahoging and I can still remember digging under water in the sand with my toes until I found a clam to throw into the basket.

If you are ever near New Haven CT, you must try Frank Pepe Pizza's white clam pizza and in RI a bag of clam cakes and Stuffies......Heaven !

Re: What's Cooking in October 2017 - trying to get month correct

Danky, I actually get up around 4 or 5 - have done that for years and years and it is hard to break. Sometimes my sleep is really short - depending on kids and myself on occasion but I worked in Palm Springs and each day I drove about 100 miles round trip. I would be at the newspaper very early. And then after Mother passed away, I started checking on my Dad as he was getting Dimentia and actually got up around 3 a.m. to get ready and then go over and check on him and his dog and cat.

Had a super busy day but a productive day and I am not completely fatigued. Did a lot of scrubbing on my bedroom hardwood floor - it had really gotten beat up in many ways. Got a lot done but it worked as it was just me and Miss Blackie (until Davey got home from school) - my OLD and ornery black cat. Didn't have any breathing problems as while it was about 95 - which is OK with me, the air was super dry and that works for me. Still have - or I should say I hope to have - perhaps another hour or so of work I can get done. With no little ones here - it makes it easier. They are with Sherry and am toying with bringing them back tomorrow but still am desperately trying to get some of this filthy house in shape - it is long overdue and am hoping I get a lot more done tomorrow - we shall see.

Hope all had a great day !

@Danky

Hi again,  In my area of Virginia, we have Tom Leonard's.  I think he's a brothr of Stew.  II love that place and live for Thursdays when their seafood is available.  Lump criabmeat is being sold 2- 16oz containere for only $20 and jumbo shrimp at $6.99/lb.  And of course, I love their fresh produce.
