Just saw these on the Recipes thread. We love sugar cookies.
Bakery Sugar Cookies
1 cup butter or butter Crisco
2 t. baking soda
1 egg
1 t. vanilla
1 cup sugar
3 cups flour
a few tablespoons of milk as necessary
Cream together butter and sugar with electric mixer.
Add egg, vanilla and baking soda. Add flour one cup at a time. Add milk one tablespoon at a time until dough is of rolling consistency. Roll out and cut into shapes (roll thick).
Bake for 6-7 minutes on ungreased cookie sheet on top shelf of oven at 400 degrees. (Cookies will look undone on top).
Cool and frost.
Frosting:
4 T. softened butter
2 c. powdered sugar a few T. milk to make frosting spreading consistency
Beat butter in a mixing bowl and add powdered sugar gradually.
Add milk and beat until frosting is a good spreading consistency.
After frosting cookies, sprinkle immediately with colored sugar.

Enjoying the weather here today before it turns hot and mean again. I don't seem to have any energy today for some reason. Guess it calls for dinner out. Lol

Davey and I snuck out for dinner as Tessa had gone with her Mother to SB. Worked for us!!! We went to the little restaurant on the street over. The man who runs it use to own Cafe Royale in Yucaipa - he just shut it down - BOOM - with NO explanation some years back. Many people were unhappy. He now has opened up this place - same good food but prices twice as high as the old ones and has stopped doing some things which had put him a step above others. He use to give you soup or salad with any meal - including sandwiches - really neat!! And you also had the choice of a side. Now the soup or salad is considered a side - what a rip off. Will add his place was nearly empty for sure!!! All eating places here have gone sky high and while I love to eat out, I certainly have had to cut way back. It's become a struggle to buy food these days. I.E. What is the price of large eggs where everyone lives - almost $4 a dozen here.

Morning All
Going to be a good day weather wise, upper 70's perfect, sorry Winifred, as to the $$ price of eggs here in ChiTown, they have escalated, something happened with the chickens but those prices have not gone up so who knows, I picked up 2 dozen at CVS $1.99 on sale, most stores are over $3.00, too bad they're not something you can stock up on.
Today is Jazz Fest at O'Hare so a fun day in store, it'll be leftovers for supper as won't feel like cooking when I get home & DD is not here for 3 days so I'll clean out the fridge.
Today is trash pick up & I've got to clean out some things so I better get busy
Have a great day

Thanks for the greeting Preds - always nice.
Yesterday was soooooooooooo miserable!!!! Hopefully today will not be anywhere as hot and miserable. At least there was no save energy day yesterday but bet there was a maximum pull of use on it. I left the house about 2 in the afternoon and turned off the ACs. I have window units sop never leave them running when gone. Am always afraid of an outage and if recovered there could be a massive pull on electricity - sure happens - and if so, there could be a quick overload or something. Anyway, got back home at 5 and it was 98 degrees INSIDE the house. Just miserable - quickly turned the units on and about 7 it was getting comfortable inside but certainly not real cool. Got up to 107 yesterday - very very uncomfortable. And I have mentioned before we have no school buses so you have to get over to the schools early to find a place to park and then sit. I turned the AC on in my car a couple times but will not run it steady while sitting for 40 to 45 minutes. Horrible. Suppose to be about 101 or 102 today - what can I say. Tomorrow, however, it is suppose to be back to normal - in the mid to high 90s - hope so but even that, at this point, will not be nice but better than what we have had.
Have not been in the kitchen any too much lately. Last night Davey had frozen dinners - which he loves (not me) and he does those in the microwave. Works for him and me!!!! Tonight? Have no clue but again, it is not a save energy day.
Am so very upset - our Curves is closing next month. There is a huge clientele so do not know the REAL reason she is doing it. She bought it about 4 years ago and I have never felt she was dedicated to it. She says she has no intention of trying to sell the business at all - she is just closing. Curves has been a lifesaver for me so now I have to find someplace as my MD says exercise is a must for me - and both he and my pulmonary MD are so right in that. I have arthritis really bad and COPD so must do it.
Hope all have a great day and eat well. Stay cool!!! Ahhhhhhhhh, I wish!! ![]()

Last nite was left over Chinese, tonite is leftover spaghetti, so no cooking, I have a few days off lol
Our weather is dreary, had some rain overnite & drizzles today, my lawn needs a lot more, but I'll take it, wish I could share with you Winifred. We are in the low 70's but back to 90's early next week, so summer is not over yet.
Thinking about that Eagle brand pound cake recipe found on the Recipe forums (I think) it sounds really good, I love a dense moist # cake they say this is it, 6 eggs & with the $$ these days hope it works out.
