What happens if you use mayonnaise instead of Miracle Whip?

I'm talking about Billie's Broccoli Salad in another thread. That broccoli is partially cooked. It says don't use mayonnaise instead of Miracle Whip. I also make that salad that has raw broccoli and raw cauliflower. That also says Miracle Whip. What terrible thing happens if you sub? Usually I would just try it, but when they come right out and say don't sub, I don't.
