Don't get this concept also!! There is no such thing. I usually freeze most things anyway when I first receive them and just take out what I want to eat but in our household nothing sweet lasts long anyway.

Seldom have extra at Christmas, but after Halloween I make cookies from them and take them to church for coffee hour. There are recipes on the web.

I take to work and they disappear fast or freeze some if I can or I hate to say toss if I have to. My husband is a sweet eater but only eats so much and we just can't eat it all
I got a bunch of candy that I am taking in on Monday that I always get in bags my sister and sister in law make up. I have my bag and my husbands bag and we eat some but the rest I take to work and we have a candy box for the office people and I contribute to that at Halloween, Christmas and Easter time and otherwise I don't. I don't eat it so I don't buy it for the office. Most of the men eat it and never bring any in so forget that. i buy my own treats and keep them in my desk but mine are healthy snacks.
Most of what I baked I gave away as gifts and took to work for our pot luck. I cut way down and don't have as much around and why waste the money. Our meal we prepared this year we cut way down and worked out much better. Peoples eating habits change over the years and not so many little ones running around any more either.

As a teacher, I get LOTS of sweets and goodies during the holidays. I have almost 50 kids in total (between 2 classes), so you can imagine what I'm saying...
I try to give them away to other people before the holidays. I don't pass them off as gifts, I just tell them I have too many and ask them if they would like to add them to their own table for the holidays. Most people are happy to take them! Some people also bring their leftover sweets to the faculty lounge after the holidays, so the staff can pick on them throughout the day.
I also did my fair share of eating those sweet this year too...

I would say anything left over after New Years Day is extra. New Year - out it goes.
