The Smithfield company is widely known for animal cruelty. A lot of people avoid it for that reason.
For anyone interested, there are numerous reports online.

Videos too. It's truly horrific and heart-breaking. It was very willful torturing of the animals and everybody around either participated or laughed their butts off because it was so hilarious. This, at least in the one video I tried to watch (didn't get too far because it was too much for me!) was shared by people in supervisorial positions also, so it wasn't just one rogue employee.
ETA - yikes, it didn't quote right.

Please don't buy Smithfield's hams or anything Smithfield for that matter. Their animal cruelty was beyond horrendous.
Those employees that participated in that kind of inhumane behavior aren't fit to be called part of the human race. What kind of a person could even do things like that?

I am convinced they are the exact same hams I saw a couple of days ago at Trader Joes for a lot more. They have the same wrapping but mine was $29 and Trader Joes was $46. They are owned by brothers and I often notice things at Aldis that are identical for a lot less. Hope it's good anyway, never tried uncured ham.
That could be since they are both owned by the same German company now. We don't have Aldis where I live.

I don't eat meat, but family and friends rave about the spiral ham from Costco. Price is reasonable. My daughter bought a ham from HoneyBaked last Christmas as a change, it was 75 dollars. Everyone said the Costco ham was identical, even better

If anybody is contemplating the Kansas City ham, I noticed that they are selling it on QVC today for $72.98. BUT, if you go to kansascitysteaks.com it's on sale for $59.95 and using the promo code - FEAST1 - you get free shipping.
This sale at the kc website is through tomorrow only. It's $10 off the ham (reg $69.95) and the free shipping - both things end tomorrow so it w/b $10 more for the ham PLUS additional shipping.
