The online stores that sell spices - like Penzeys and The Spice House- have whole nutmeg.
It's kind of pricey, especially with shipping.
You might find it in a neighborhood grocery store. McCormick sells whole nutmeg (in a bottle).
TY I will check it out . I also think I will go the McCormick's web site ( if there is one) and see if they list it.
My custard was good ,but I was thinking it would be even better with freshly ground. I purchased the Kloch blum (sp?) grinders for salt & pepper love them and ended up with an extra grinder . I am thinking how good it would be to use it for nutmeg, and cloves =2 of my favorite wintertime spices.

@okaywitheasypay Spice Islands I think still sells whole nutmeg. I just use my microplane to measure what I need for cooking or baking.
I, too, like the combination of cloves and nutmeg.
