This morning on the news I heard SW PA may be getting a Wegmans store soon in our area.  If you have a Wegmans, please post your comments.  We also do not have Publix here either.

I live very near a Wegmans - was thrilled when it was built in nearby NJ around 6 years ago.

I love the store. It's extremely well kept, has nice wide grocery aisles and isn't cluttered like the local ShopRite. Always very clean. Fresh and prepared food aisles are great, they change the displays often based on time or year and holidays. Very large bakery department, hot food buffets, and a food court with various counters and an area to sit if you like. Meat and fish is excellent quality. I've never come across an employee that wasn't cheerful and helpful.

That being said....there are cons too. Regular grocery items are well priced, comparable to a ShopRite. They push their house brand items and don't carry a huge number of national brands. I find the store brand to be quite good in many cases. Like pasta. Produce is usually excellent quality, but anything they cut up or separately prepare is very high priced. Prices on fresh foods like meat, fish, bakery and prepared entrees are very high. Prices are very high in most supermarkets these days so your perception will depend on what you're used to.

It's certainly worth a few visits if you have the opportunity.

One opened about 5 years ago.  At first I went often but now not so much.  Their house brand products are good and well priced.  I like their yogurts and lactose free milk.  Deli is weird--they carry strange brands, no potato salad, cole slaw, etc.

Bakery is eyecatching but very expensive.  I stop in the store maybe once a month.  Publix is all over Florida and the south.  I doubt it will come north.  I am in NJ.

We have several Wegmans stores in our area, but most of them are a 20-30 minute drive away and I'm glad for that because it's pricey for a weekly grocery run (bear in mind that I do most of our grocery shopping at BJ's). If we happen to be near a Wegmans, we'll stop in to see what they've got in the bakery because their bakeries are excellent. They have a variety of fresh breads that are delicious that you can get in a full or half loaf. Their produce is fresh and nicely displayed. If we happen to need something, we'll pick it up while we're there and we've usually been happy with those items. There's usually a food court or food buffet that's very good, too. One of the concert venues we like has a Wegmans built into the complex where you can get made-to-order burgers, pizza, hoagies, Asian food, etc. This one also has a bar onsite. The food's great and it's always packed when there's a concert. Definitely check it out when they open, especially if they have opening day discounts or promotions.

We just got a new Wegmans in the town next to me in March.  It is a gorgeous store!  Very bright & cheefrul and everything looks so appetizing!

Half of the store is various prepared foods.  However they also have their own brand and sell a lot of regular grocery items.

I have only been there a few times because I take my DH to therapy in NJ every week and there is a Wegmans there I have been going to regularly.  Over the summer he's not going to therapy as much and I plan on going to the new Wegmans near me more often.

I lived in Rochester for 25 years prior to mioving to NC and have fond memories of Wegmans.

Apparently they are opening their first store in the Charlotte NC area but it would be 45 min one way drive. It takes me about 20-25 min to get to Publix or Harris Teeter (which I don't care for).

So, most of our shopping is done at Food Lion.

Like Publix the most but I have to say the cashiers and staff at our Food Lion are outstanding. The produce man will ask what we need, go find it in the back, and bring it to us while we contine shopping.

I am in N.J.   The Wagmens in my nek of the woods is so huge the stockers are on roller skates. Smiley Surprised  Reason why I rarely go there.  To large for my taste.  Paramour loves to  go to this Wagmans because it has its own liquor store right in the parking lot!

It is 2 stories.  The upper section is a lounge/lunchroom to eat your buffet or cafeteria type food or just chill out.   2nd floor is all glass so you see the shopping area while you eat & chill.

There is a coffee lounge in the front on the ground floor.

Don't know what else as the place is so large I have yet seen the whole store as I always get lost.

The parking lot stays packed & its always crowded inside you think Wagmans is giving stuff away for free.  I always lose my car.  I park in the back so I can easily find it.  I still manage to lose my car.  Have to activate my alarm. Smiley Mad

I do not believe there are any Publix up north.  The ones I've been to are down south.  All I can say about that store is that the ones in Atlanta area are so clean, you can eat off their floors.   I have never seen any other grocery store so clean. The staff have that southern charm & politeness you DO NOT see up north.

My parents live in southern part of Northern VA, they have a Publix 5 mins away from them otherwise closest nice Grocery used to be Giant about 15/20 mins away. They also have a Wegman but it's not close by so mom very rarely goes there. Before Publix was built you went to Walmart or Target to get something quickly.

Thanks for all the replies.  I don't think they have broken ground yet, but a blink of an eye and it will go up quickly.  We shall see.  Thanks for all the comments.  I knew they were near Philly, as QVC food demonstrations show some Wegmans cans being used. (Can openers/strainers, etc).
