I don't cook much anymore (I live alone). When I cooked every day and had a family to cook for I washed everything BEFORE I cooked it.

I still wash whatever I am going to eat. It AMAZES (capital letters) me how many people don't wash that salad mix that you get in the stores that is already chopped up! Ugh! I've seen bugs, you name it in that mix.

Other things people don't even think about washing would be eggs or fruit (like watermelon, cantaloupe. When you slice into that fruit the knife comes down into the fruit that you will soon be ingesting. It only makes sense to wash that part of the fruit that was recently handled by who knows how many people. Think of all of the places that cantaloupe has been before it came into your kitchen! Ugh!

So, again, yes, you bet I wash chicken and everything else that enters my kitchen (especially anything I am going to eat).

I rinse/wash everything from the store. I soak my veggies in water/vinegar and I rinse my meats. I know the proper way to deal with meat so the kitchen is not contaminated. It's not that hard and involves common sense. I won't even put containers from the store directly in the fridge without wiping them down first.

Bone chips, plastic, hair, feathers, and unseen bacteria can be found on packaged meat. Just because they run it thru a metal detector doesn't mean there's not other stuff in the package.

Thank you Lacey, and that's not the worst of it.

I'm telling you, if you ever want to stop eating meat, tour a packing plant{#emotions_dlg.scared}

Better yet, find a video online. Know where your food comes from & how it is processed. No need to stop eating meat, just make sure it comes from a good source. Local is best but you can research brands, too. 100% grassfed beef companies can be good. One local farm I used to get meat from always invited customers to see how it was done.

i rinse it anyway. my big question is they take a chicken or turkey out of the freezer, put it in the nuwave and cook it. how do they get the neck, giblets etc out of the turkey or chicken? they can't possibly cook them with all that stuff inside. i'd never do that.

How many people will peel a banana and handle it without thinking about washing it! My sister lives in an area with many melon farms. She says you see a lot of workers, but you never see an outhouse. Do the math-wash your food!

Yes lacey you are totally right! I am always reminding family and friends about washing things before they cook or eat it.

I'm not watching Carolyn and the NuWave guy. It is 11:10AM it is on the table (frozen chicken) and he will soon (probably) be using them in the cooking process.

I have asked who eats all of this stuff. I've never gotten a good answer. One time (a long time ago) Mary Beth answered me and said that most of the food sits under those hot lights and isn't any good for consumption.

That makes sense, but a lot of it looks to me like it's only on the air for a few minutes.

I wonder if anyone on HSN or QVC has ever said, "Ugh! That doesn't taste good". I wonder if anyone has said, "I'm allergic to this or that so I can't taste it". I doubt it.

I know it's part of their job. Someone else posted the other day it's the way they make a really, really big deal about how wonderful it is.

Why not say, "That's tasty or good"?

I feel like any minute the Host is going to lay across the food and say, "Mine! All mine! No one else can have any of it!"

I was shocked too to hear him say that. I always wash my chicken whether it is whole or cut up. I also defrost my whole wrapped chicken in cold water, changing it often. Been doing it over 40 years.

I always wash my chicken. I know they have recently changed their recs on this. I am very confident in my ability to contain the spray and limit the spread. I do sanitize with bleach like another poster. No one has yet to get sick in my house from the practice of washing chicken. I don't like the idea of cooking meals in a large inoculation of bacteria because they will get killed anyway. What's the sauce ... dead bacteria... blech. I'd rather reduce the levels with a good rinsing , and use proper handling technique.

lol... I think they try to be more diplomatic when they are selling things. I have seen hosts on talk shows try food and make comments about it tasting bad. That is usually amusing.

Yes, you're right. I've seen a few like morning shows (not shows where they are selling something) when the person has said, "That's too hot for me". Things like that.

I realize it would not be a good sales pitch for the person to say, "Ugh! Throw that out with the trash". Ha!

I just change the channel when I see QVC or HSN selling the food or presenting something that cooks the food.
