To address the OP's recommendation of Emeril's rice cooker at Sears - I would think that anyone who even looked at the barest description of Wolfgang's rice cooker could see that is a *1-2 serving* cooker. It holds 3 cups of food. Not everyone looking for a rice cooker is looking for a 5-10 cup cooker. People are interested in the WP cooker *because it is small*. So why would they be better off purchasing a much larger machine, and why should Emeril's cooker be more desirable to them when it takes up 2-3 times the counter space, makes 3-4 times more than they need/want, and costs 3-1/2 times more?

OP here. To clarify: Read the reviews on each product. I said that I've seen the Emeril multi-cooker for less money, than the Sears link. The Emeril cooker may be more 'desirable' because it's better made, and more versatile. It was just an FYI post for anyone on the fence about ordering the WP TSV. Go ahead and buy WP. There seems to be a number of people that don't mind buying his junk-just because they think he's 'adorable'. The 'so what if it breaks, I'm only out $20' mentality-I just don't get.

Well, I guess if I starting getting "junk" that doesn't work, I'll stop buying WP. So far, I've been nothing but happy with his items. I have been using his full size cooker for at least 3 years and I've had absolutely no problems, and I've used it as much more than just a rice cooker.

I wanted this smaller one to be able to make smaller portions. If it doesn't work, I will send it back and get my return shipping in spendable cash.

ETA I don't base my buying decisions on any vendors personality.

Just checked HSN-there are no bad reviews for the rice cooker.

I use my small slow cooker for rice-1/2 cup rice, 1 cup water. Not as fast as a rice cooker but the rice cooks okay and I don't have to stir or watch.

Better check again. There are 638 reviews. Plenty of 1, 2, and 3 stars. I consider them to be 'bad'.

If this little thing can heat up a can of soup it serves my purpose for just $20. I know that I am not cooking rice in it. They are not selling it as a pressure cooker. It's sort of a Crockpot/electric sauce pot/steamer hybrid. Based on the sales HSN is experiencing Emeril is working on something similar right now (and I don't blame him).

I have had two of his cookers. The first two were 10 cup cookers. The very first one burnt up after a few years of use. The second had the pot start flaking. I have a new pot for it, but picked up the vita-clay cooker with a clay pot instead of the teflon pot. If I buy another one, it will be a instant pot due to the stainless steel pot in them. They are about $130 from Amazon, but long lasting and very useful with all the functions it has.Product Details

It's just the two of us, and many times DH works late, or doesn't feel like eating by the time he gets home, so I haven't been into cooking for a long time. I also bought the cookbook, so I'm hoping this will be a way to make some good, quick meals for one. I WAS wondering how you time things, there didn't appear to be a timer on it, but I guess you can't have everything at that price!

My rice cooker I believe times the cooking with some sort of weight sensor.

It looks pretty small to me, I would prefer Emeril's if I were looking for one. I just cook rice the old fashioned way, on the stove, fifteen minutes after the water comes to a boil it's done, foolproof.

As far as cooking *only* rice there are a lot of options, including stovetop which was all I did for years. But the attraction of this cooker is to singles and couples who can steam-cook a variety of foods, not just rice, in small portions.

Don't know about the Wolfie rice cooker. I had a rice cooker that I used almost daily for over 20 years. Sad when it wore out! But I replaced it with a digital pressure cooker/rice cooker/slow cooker that does a lot of different jobs, not just rice. It does make foolproof rice, though, and even risotto. And fast!

I ordered two, one for my son and one for me. But by the time I decided to order, the colors were very limited. Only black, white, blue, and red. For the price, I don't think it's going to be a bad choice and he always demonstrates and shows so many ways to use it.
