WHY CANNED TOMATOES IN 'VITAMIX'??

In two of the demo's today for the Vitamix machine, "canned" tomatoes were used for the vegetable drink. That seems strange because all the other veggies were fresh. Can you use 'fresh' tomatoes in the drinks? If so, wonder why the man didn't in the demo's ?
