Taco Tuesday . $9 lb hamburg and not even summer yet when this butcher shop jacks up their prices. I want to say it is worth it because theres no gristle.Their rib-eyes are $24.99 per lb. a bit too rich so we stick w the hamburg!

Re: WHATS COOKING iN THIS MONTH OF APRIL?

@foxywoods - we love our ribeyes but only get the thin cuts at Costco (I think $20/lb.).  Otherwise they are way too big and way too expensive.  I try to do some fast math onsite, to determine the average weight per steak and shoot for 8 oz..  That's really plenty of protein. It seems like I'm always hearing about protein being pushed by various influencers and tv shopping hosts.  Ginormous amounts of protein are unnecessary and can even be unhealthy unless you're doing tons of exercise, play team sports, or work at a super physical job.  If the body doesn't use all the protein that's been consumed it will turn to sugar in the body and get stored as fat.  Oops sorry about veering off topic.

Anyway, as much as I love my little ribeyes, I can really get into a bacon cheeseburger dressed with my favorite toppings.

Re: WHATS COOKING iN THIS MONTH OF APRIL?

Our DSIL is very comfortable and very adept at cooking. He made dinner last night.  We had thin cut NY strip steaks that he dry brined all day then put them on the smoker for about an hour.  He then finished them with a quick reverse sear in a cast iron pan.  On the side, we had sauteed mushrooms and onions, and some amazing charred, roasted Brussels.  It was a fantastic meal.

I have a massage this morning and won't get home until close to lunchtime.  I had some vacuum sealed packets of homemade pulled pork & gravy in the freezer so I pulled one out to thaw.  I'll make creamy mashed cauliflower before I leave and then just warm it up when I get back. I'll steam some frozen freen beans too.

Re: WHATS COOKING iN THIS MONTH OF APRIL?

Good evening everyone.  Cloudy today we were going to get rain but it was just cloudy. Monday I made four ham and provolone cheese calzones. Plenty of leftovers and Tuesday I made mashed potatoes, corn and fried chicken and brown gravy and yestauday I made the dog her food, elbow pasta with chicken. We started doing that when she got sick and was at the animal hospital for a few days. They told us to give her that and she loves it. And Tuesday I made a banana cake with cream cheese frosting. I was in the kitchen all day and had tons of dirty dishes but I got everything cleaned up by this morning. I had a friend come over today and she said don't cook I will order lunch. She ordered a medium pizza and it came way bigger than any medium pizza I ever saw. We both ate some and she took some home left some here. It had sauce, cheese, caramelized onions, pepperoni, mushrooms and banana peppers on it. It looked and was delicious. We both said this was the best pizza we have had in a long time. Have a great night everyone.

Re: WHATS COOKING iN THIS MONTH OF APRIL?

It's a warm sunny moring.  Out of the corner of my eye, I thought I saw something run across the patio but when I went outside to investigate I couldn't find anything or anyone.  Most likely it was a squirrel or stray cat.  What I did see is our lilac bushes in full bloom. So pretty!

DS got his car into the repair shop.  They'll have it until late tomorrow afternoon or Monday.  We dropped one of our cars off yesterday so he can use it for the time being. He and the kids will be visiting today and we'll have the steak fajitas.  Can't wait!
