@Fourchette  I have the 5200 and have used the shorter container with mine every day for a few years now.  Why aren't you suppose to use it with this model?  I've never heard that.  I much prefer the shorter container.  Thanks for any information.

I also would like to have the same questions answered.

If possible, I would still like for someone to answer the questions from other posters in this thread.  Also, if anyone has used a Vitamix 5200 with the tall narrow container and compared it to the 7500 model, I would like opinions about the differences, including the noise difference.  Thanks for your time!

OK-- I think I have a 5200 series VM--mine is the creations gallery model (??) I bought it a year ago Valentines Day as a TSV on the Q--it  came with the 64 oz tall cantainer. It has the dial in the middle, and the 2 toggle switches on each side. I use mine at least 5 times a week. It is noisy---but they all are. I haven't made soup yet. I make smoothies and yes it does obliterate chia seeds, nuts, grains in a smoothie, however, I also have a 32 oz container that I use everyday and I bought the dry container for grinding grains into flour , which works great. Don't know about the newer models. I chose mine based on what I wanted to spend which was $379. It does all in need but am going to see about making bread dough in it. I went to e*bay for my extra containers too. I had my moms 3600, all stainless steel VM from the 1980's and used that for prob another 5 years before it kind of died. Worked great too. I've found that I don't use all the bells and whistles that things can come with anymore.
