Another vote for Vitamix.

Also, I like the new Vitamix scale, which connects to wifi, and can give you an accurate calorie count per serving, based on the exact weight of the ingredients you include.  That really helps when I'm interested in backing off the calories.

Blentec is great and I'm sure anyone would be happy with it....that being said Vitamix is the best and if you have a choice, that is what I would purchase.

Vitamix, hands down.  And don't put it away.  Keep it on your counter so you'll use it.  When it's stored away, it's kind of an out of sight, out of mind thing.  One thing to note, however, is that the tall canister/jar (whatever you want to call it) is too tall to fit underneath upper cabinets.  The shorter one has a smaller capacity, but fits nicely and the entire unite can be pushed all the way back to the wall.

Thanks ladies! There is a vitamix tsv Jan 11th.  Now What do you think about variable speed or presets.

We have what I think is the 5200 form about 7years ago.  It has an on/off switch on the right, a knob in the middle that makes it increase speed, and a high/low switch on the left.  It works great and has never presented a problem speed wise.

It has the old-style tall jar and I love it.  I have a counter where I can sit it with no problem.  We would hate to be without the Vitamix!

Presets could be useful if you plan to do those specific things a lot. But variable speed will do everything so if it's less expensive and that matters, you won't have anything to regret. I'd avoid the 2-speed because it's too limiting if you really get into it. I'm glad for those who are enjoying their Ninjas and Blendtecs, but if I had a choice I'd always go for the Vitamix.
