I have been looking at Vitamix for a while because I am really interested in juicing more greens like kale, etc.... and getting the benefit of not throwing out all that good pulp and fiber. I have read many wonderful reviews for Vitamix but started noticing more great reviews for Blendtec.
First let me say they are both around the same price, $400. I have been looking at the reviews on Amazon.com for Blendtec and they are pretty great and A LOT of people who have had or used Vitamix have used or now own Blendtec. The consensus seems that Blendtec has a couple of features which makes it a bit better than Vitamix and I was wondering if any of you have any experience with BOTH and could compare.
The first feature that people who once owned a Vitamix and now own the Blendtec love is the height. It is 15" compared to VM 20", so it fits under the counter therefore freeing up more room. Second, most people say the BT is much easier to clean out. Stuff doesn't get stuck under the blades and in the "indentations" of the blender unit. That seems to be mentioned in post after post. Another point is that the buttons are much easier to clean because they sit flush with the blender and have a "skin" on the BT and you can easily wipe right over them without crude getting stuck in or around the buttons. Another thing about the Blendtec is that it doesn't have a tamper and people actually seem to LIKE that because they say it isn't necessary like it is with the VM because it creates a vortex that mixes everything wonderfully without having to use the tamper. When it comes to blending it seems from reviews they are really pretty even, one lady even said she blended an avocado WITH the pit (with the Blendtec blender) and it was as smooth as can be. Both are loud and that doesn't bother me at all, it is to be expected I think. Another plus for the Blendtec is that you don't have to have a separate container if you want to turn grains into flour, it uses the same container.
Right now I have a Kitchen Aide blender which I really do love for most things but I could never use it for some of the things the VM and BT do. I have tried over and over to make my kale, spinach drinks (I mix them with apples and bananas to make it taste better and actually these are very tasty) but it just doesn't blend the greens like I have seen the Vitamix do, it actually makes them into a complete liquid. That is pretty much what I need this machine for, to use it as a juicer but using whole fruit and keeping the pulp in it while still making it palatable to drink. I was really impressed with my friends Vitamix but it seems there are a good amount of other features that make the Blendtec a little more appealing for me like what I have mentioned above.
I was one of those that laughed at the price of the VM but after seeing what it does with greens and other fruits and veggies and making them into complete liquids, well my Kitchen Aid just will not do that and I have tried many times, many different ways. KA is just great for your regular things but it can't possibly do what I need it to in terms of juicing.
So sorry for the long post. I just wanted to address the things that made these two great blenders a bit different and see if anyone here has had experience with both the Vitamix and Blendtec and could tell me what they think.
Thank you so much in advance!
