Chicken and fish bones are fine.  Beef and pork bones are much harder and should NOT go in your Vitamix.  You can double check this if you want to by calling Vitamix's customer service the phone # is in your owners manual

Re: Vitamix and bones?

[ Edited ]

We've been grinding up chicken bones in our Vitamix for years & years. We make our own calcium capsules.  Just make sure to dry out the bones in the oven.  Never had any issues, and it's a much better source of calcium than anything you can buy at any expensive store, AND your body knows exactly how to process this healthier option for calcium supplementation.  And, no additional additives or fillers!  We store the capsules in the freezer, and it keeps for a year. Good luck!

I would never do attempt to grind bones in my Vitamix again.  it's an Ascent 3500.  Overheat error code E3 22 came up while grinding less than a quart of containers worth.  The clean up was terrible due to the meat fibers wrapping around the blade assembly.  Just get a met grinder.
