UPDATE: Thanksgiving Meal from Restaurant Good/Bad?

The meal ordered from Marie Calendar's was very good and we enjoyed it.We ordered two individual meals, and the two of us shared one meal, so we have another meal for two. The food was plentiful and good. The cranberry sauce was a very small portion, but I had made my own cranberry sauce, so it was no problem. We will order again next year.

The sole problem was their scheduling as to when to pick it up. First we were told that we could get the meals on Wednesday, but that turned out to be changed to Thursday.

Aside from that, all went well.

So, all of you who also ordered out, tell us what you thought about your meal.

Since we were not traveling, we decided to splurge and ordered from a very good local restaurant, William Penn Inn.  We had to pick-up on Wednesday and reheat.  All the food was plentiful and good, but I found the turkey a bit gamey--not as good as what my MIL used to cook (although I am not a big turkey fan anyway.)  My cats were yowling for bites of the turkey!

We received mashed potatoes, stuffing, asparagus, yams, corn chowder soup, caesar salad, cranberry sauce, two breads, and desserts.

It was not the cheapest, but it was very convenient. We also have PLENTY of food left over for future meals.

My second choice would have been Cracker Barrel  --they are economical and pretty tasty.  I also saw lines of people at the Boston Market picking up their dinners.

@Flatbush Many years ago, we had Thanksgiving Dinner out at a restaurant.  I was expensive and it was mediocre; the kind of meal you get at a wedding or Bar Mitzvah.

Re: UPDATE: Thanksgiving Meal from Restaurant Good/Bad?

We had our family Thanksgiving on Sunday - made a ham.

So for our Thurs. Thanksgiving meal just for the two of us, I ordered

a dinner from HEB (a TX grocery store)

Turkey breast, gravy, canberry sauce, dressing, yams, mashed potatoes

and green been casserole.

I really wanted to buy from Cracker Barrel, but it's a long drive for me.

HEB's was really good.  Better than I expected.

Re: UPDATE: Thanksgiving Meal from Restaurant Good/Bad?

We ordered out from a local restaurant called The Smoke Pit.  It was expensive (4 kids, 4 adults) and everything was exceptional except for the strawberry cobbler.

22 pound smoked cajun turkey, half pan sizes ($35 each) of mac/cheese, potato salad and strawberry cobbler. $170 total. Turkey came with a white BBQ sauce.  Picked it up on Thanksgiving morning and everything was fresh and hot.

We will probably get the turkey again, but size down or eliminate or make some of the sides. We did add our own stuffing and gravey.

The best thing  was that we picked out what we wanted for our leftovers and sent the rest of the aluminum food-filled pans home with the kids.........easy clean-up
