Have you ever deep fried a turkey? How did it go?
Before Thanksgiving, a woman posted a Pic of her set-up for frying hers in her kitchen, on the NextDoor app. Her prep included putting cardboard all over the floor to absorb grease. Readers nearly had a fit.
This house was a mansion.

This is a good argument for ordering take out for Thanksgiving.

So sad that a house was destroyed. You can't be to careful it can happen even in a garage! Frying a Turkey in the kitchen ? What was she thinking ? I have fried a turkey before but I did it outside in the back yard away from my home one time. The turkey was awesome but the time it takes to prep the bird and get the turkey fryer set up and then keep close watch is a chore I won't do again. I had grease splattering everywhere ! When I sold my home and moved to an apartment I gave the Turkey fryer away

Every local TV station on this end of WV interviewed local firemen for safety tips on deep frying a turkey for Thanksgiving. The 2 segments I saw started with setting up the fryer far away from the house and garage, and stressing that the turkey be dry when it is dunked into the hot oil!

I'm not saying it isn't true. I just don't believe it.
HOW could anyone get a huge fryer that would hold a whole turkey, plus GALLONS OF OIL ...... and never bother to read instructions or info on the INTERNET?
Just curious ... if you'd never done this before, wouldn't you ask friends or family that had done this?
Stupid, just plain stupid.
I wonder what her insurance will be paying ... yikes.

@Tinkrbl44. Recent events have proven there are tons of stupid people out there.
I saw a fire department report on a woman who covered her kitchen floor with cardboard and was set to fry her turkey there. Fortunately someone saved her from herself.

I have deep fried a turkey...once.
Thankfully, I did it outside.
When you drop or lower a cold turkey into a vat of boiling fat, you get an explosion of grease. It's dangerous.
That fryer was a once and done for me. Directions clearly state to cook outside away from your house and buildings and not in your garage.
I wonder if insurance will cover that fire if directions weren't followed.
I wasn't quite prepared for the oil splatter and was lucky I didn't get burned.
I also received a turkey fryer that doesn't use any oil. You just oil the bird and drop into the fryer. It was a gift and I never used it.

@Tinkrbl44 A turkey fryer is huge. It is made large enough to hold a turkey. It is fueled with a propane tank like what you would use for a BBQ grill.
You put the turkey in a metal basket and using a wire removable handle that looks like a clothes hanger, you lower the basket with the turkey into a couple of gallons of hot oil.
Oil and propane is an accident looking for a place to happen. QVC used to sell these types of fryers. They were super popular at one time.
A lot of injuries and fires occurred. They are dangerous.
