Re: Trouble finding barley

My grocery store stopped selling a ground flax/Chia seed mix and now I buy it exclusively from Amazon.

@dex  I have not seen any problem with finding barley. We use it on a regular basis. I find it at our supermarket with the dried beans and lentils. Goya also sells it and displays it in the Mexican/Latino section. Now if you are talking about barley with the hull still intact, that may be a different issue.

@PA Mom-mom @I just use it in my soups...not particular about type  but I love the taste and health benefits. We don’t have aldi so that won’t help for future purchase if Whole Foods won’t carry.

@dex  We buy our barley at ShopRite. I use in the place of rice and pasta for almost everything.

Re: Trouble finding barley

@dex   I've experienced the same.  Yesterday I wanted to make a big pot of vegetable soup and I uually include some barley for heartiness.  While checking my cupboards for the barley, I remembered that I had a hard time finding it the last time.

I made a quick trip to TJoe's to buy thinking for sure they would have it.  The closest I could come was a package of "Ancient Grains" that included barley.  I purchased it and stopped at Spouts on the way home.  No luck there either, but they did have a great sale in the dry goods on the red lentils and green and yellow split peas for the pantry. So it wasn't a total loss   I used the Ancient Grains in the soup and it turned out great.

I guess it is just coincidence about the lack of barley.  Several other posters have not had an issue.  But I wondered, like you did, if something was up with barley.

The Quaker brand of barley is readily available in most grocery stores.  Quaker also makes its famous oatmeal brand,  and the barley can usually be found near oatmeal in the cereal aisle of groceries, or perhaps in the rice/grains section.

I just got a new box of Quaker barley in the past couple of weeks, so I know it can sometimes be hard to locate within some grocery stores.  Just ask a manager whether the store stocks it and on which aisle it can be found.

Barley doesn't get a lot of  shelf space, so it can be hidden in plain sight on an upper shelf somewhere.
