I realized at noon today, making my tuna sandwich w/tomato, that the chili I made for dinner tonight, also has tomatoes, and the pizza we eat, and the baked spaghetti, and plain old ketchup has the mighty tomato to thank.  Kind of blew me away to think about it. I use a variety in goulash, and there's lasagna, and who knows what I'm leaving out.

I really gave it some thought, it appears.

Is there another food we use in that many dishes? Eggs, noodles?

@qualitygal. I use onions more than tomatoes and I use them in most savory dishes.  Tomatoes are expensive if you can't grow them yourself.

@qualitygal  I use tomatoes a lot at this time of year. My patio tomatoes are still producing, so I try to use them up in the short time we still have together. I'm putting them on top of my baked cod today, and I'm using them in my chef's salad. For breakfast, I cook them with my fried eggs. For a quick pasta sauce, I mix sauteed tomatoes with basil. Lately, I've made my Friday night "pizza" with fresh tomatoes, basil and cheese between two carb balance tortillas, seared on each side in a frying pan. Tomatoes are my go-to in the summer - along with basil. I agree with the mention of onions, and I also use garlic nearly every day.

I saw a documentary once about tomatoes.  It told how many thousands of acres are grown for commercial use fresh and in canned goods and frozen foods.

It was astonishing!  Tomatoes are the most eaten veggie in the world!

@qualitygal   I use a lot of grated parmesan cheese.  Seems like everyday.

Topping for soups.  Also have a chicken breast on polenta slices with baby tomatoes, olive oil and parm sprinkled on top roasted one pan meal I do often.

I add parmesan and Salad Supreme to fresh popped popcorn.

Roasted chicken wings with parm and olive oil.

Roasted veg, had mini peppers sliced in 1/2 with olive oil sprinkled with parm and some herbs last night.

I also love tomatoes but they don't love me so I have them sparingly.  Smiley Happy

@Zhills- Technically tomatoes are a fruit, but most of us think and use them as a veggie. I'm originally from N.J., now in So. Cal since 1959 and I really miss the Jersey tomatoes I grew up eating.

We are home of the famous Ruskin tomatoes.

Most of them got frozen out a few years ago and the drought has made it impossible for them to come back.

The U of Florida is constantly coming up with newer, tastier, easy to grow tomatoes.  Never know just what you will get when you buy them.

I think wheat is eaten by most people everyday.  Almost everything good seems to have wheat in it.

Complaining....I can't eat it and haven't for 39 years.
