Thanks! I do this, too, and my husband thinks I am paranoid and crazy. I told him I had heard of this happening.

ETA That I never run the dryer unless we are home and never turn it on and just go to bed. You never know (as some of the stories above demonstrate).

I leave my microwave & the charger for my weed whacker plugged in at all times. Small appliances are unplugged & put away after use since I don't have counter space to leave them out.
