Those of you who use fabric tablecloths..

is it tacky to use clear plastic on top?

I purchased some heavy duty clear plastic for my mom's table. She won't use a tablecloth without the plastic. I have to admit, it saves the tablecloth.

I have some vintage table linens that I hesitate to use, but dh says the plastic is in poor taste.

Any thoughts?
