I always buy Kerrygold because it's grass fed. It's always been higher than regular butter.

That's what I buy. The only place in town that sells it is Wal-Mart & it's $3.46 or a few cents more. Just bought 12 packs with tax was $45+. I cut them into 2 sticks, vacuum seal them & freeze. I always stock up on them because sometimes it's in stock & sometimes it's not. I put it in the butter boat on the counter. I also buy grass fed from a local farmer when they have it. It's higher from the farmer.

Interesting. I'm big on vacuum sealing and freezing but I've never tried freezing butter. Does it change it at all? I remember freezing cheese once and it changed it considerably. TIA Smiley Happy

I have not noticed any change in the butter after freezing it.

Thanks, paShar! Does it change the consistency - like, does it become crumbly or anything like that?

Thanks, Nightowlz! That is good to know. I wouldn't mind stocking up a bit if I could vac-seal and freeze some back stock, but if freezing changes it I would probably not want to do it.

I always freeze and never noticed a difference in consistency. I found this on the internet and is exactly what I do- vacuum seal even better I am sure

  1. To freeze butter, wrap tightly in heavy-duty aluminum foil or plastic freezer wrap, or place inside a heavy-duty freezer bag. Frozen salted butter will generally keep longer (up to 9 months for best quality) than unsalted butter(5-6 months for best quality).

The price of our butter has almost doubled and I'm sure like anything else, once they get the price up there it won't come down again. And I live in Wisconsin...the ah...dairy state.....

Thanks, Nikkimom! I will try it. I love to vacuum seal, so this is right up my alley! I also prefer salted butter so that's another one in the plus column. I would imagine, like other foods, it stops aging as soon as it's frozen so the 'use by' date becomes irrelevant.

I would definitely say that vacuum sealing it would be MUCH preferable over wrapping and putting in plastic bags. Smiley Happy

I think I'll take one cube out, from the lb I just bought, vac seal it, and freeze it, to test it out.

I just bought Land O Lakes butter two days ago and it was $4.79 here in CO. I was thinking it had gone up also.

Land O Lakes was $4.99 here in western Pa. I think meat and dairy and just food in general has skyrocketed this past year.

I use very little butter, so I always freeze mine. Have for years and have never noticed a change in consistency.

On price - yep, it's up and that's why I felt good to get a pound free this week as a bonus for spending $15 and handing in a coupon! Easy - and I have enough butter to last me for months.

Wow. That's pretty high. That brand is higher here too. I never buy Land O Lakes, a Minnesota company. We prefer Grassland dairy products from here in Wisconsin, with lower prices. Their butter is 2.69 a pound. Just saying!Smile

I can't remember the last time I bought a name brand. The Ralph's (Kroger) brand is usually $3.49 - sometimes $2.99. I buy it because I like to bake, but I keep thinking it's going to go on sale one of these days so I can stock up. I can't remember the last time I saw a 2/$5 sale. Maybe before Thanksgiving.
