Do you like picnics and what are your picnic essentials?

Too hot to picnic in the south during the summer but I do love to tailgate in the fall, similar concept!
But I like my tailgating to be catered!
A bucket of chicken will do fine!

My favorite picnics were the ones I made with my boys when they were young. Spread a blanket out on the front lawn and eat a picnic lunch! Also enjoyed picnics at the lake and picnic supper at the fireworks on July 4th. Good times!

My favorite picnic; Cold home-made fried chicken, mom's potato salad, black olives, assorted carrot and celery sticks, watermelon, cupcakes.
I have a fully outfitted picnic basket I won in a contest at work. Has never been used.

Hate picnics. I can count the times on 1 hand of the picnics I participated in.
I don't like swatting flies, bees & wasps as well as flicking ants off the blanket while I am trying to eat.

Although I have been on a few picnics, most of the time I "picnic" in our sunroom. I don't like sharing my food with ants! I have a "thing" about ants - can't stand them! ![]()

For me the perfect picnic was any time with family and friends. We live in a beautiful area for outdoor activities. My parents and our friends all enjoyed them. The best were the last minute everyone "grab what you have" invitation and run to a park or favorite fishing spot.
We always had our fitted picnic basket ready to go from the time we got married. The ice chest was kept close by. (Just like my parents did.). My husband and I loved being outside. Camping, fishing, archery, etc. For years when the kids were small my husband worked second shift. I made salads in the evening and prepped veggies, etc. Next day, weather permitting, we did chores then took the kids to a park. It gave us fun and family time with their father before he went to work. It also helped ensure everyone got exercise and fresh air. This tired the kids out and they were ready for their nap when we got home. That second shift worked great until the kids started school and then my husband got regular day hours so we could have our family time at night.
I really miss those times but I have beautiful memories.

First, great company to share the food! Next, an old fashioned picnic basket filled with home made foods, and finally a waterproof/washable soft folding picnic blanket. A great view of nature is esential too.

Does it, by definition, have to happen outside?
I guess I'm not so much a picnic person. I'm too skittish about stuff like bugs and dirt in food, not to mention I cannot function in heat.
My best notion for a picnic was from, in the past, when I would cook up a bunch of food (food that travels easily), like fried chicken, and take it to my husband's office for him and the others to enjoy. A nice, air-conditioned office...oh yeah! ![]()
