We've always kept an extra refrigerator in the garage for overflow. I use it consistently spring, summer, and fall, but not in winter. Today we need it. My kitchen fridge, purchased Oct. 2019, isn't cooling. I'm unable to adjust the coolness settings. Fortunately we caught it before anything went bad. I can't get a guy here until the end of the week so it'll be a little inconvenient but that's ok.

Good for you that you have a spare. My Kenmore fridge turned 24 years old in Jan. Not ever looking forward to replacing it. I have no spare so hopefully, if and when it happens, my neighbor will have room for extra stuff of mine.

I have always had two refrigerators both full all year long. My second is in the garage. I have two stand alone freezers in there as well.
I needed repair for my kitchen refrigeratior because it wasn't cold while it was under warranty. The repairman said new fridges are made for a part of the compressor to go out fairly quickly. He replaced it.
While he was here, I asked him about my second fridge that was not cold enough. He said he could fix it for $100 cash under the table. I jumped on it.
Right now both are working well. Sounds like your fridge has the same problem both of mine had.

At the moment, I don't know if it's the compressor, the thermostat, or the computer panel. My mfg. warranty expired but I purchased from Costco, using my Costco branded credit card, which extends the warranty. There's a process to follow for reimbursement. That was probably the best $100 you spent, @Carmie. The guy I have coming charges $110 to walk in the door, but he's got a lot of years experience and comes highly recommended locally.

I didn't always have one out there but, a number of years ago, my husband purchased another refrigerator freezer from his (at that time) boss who had a tendency to replace EVERYTHING everycouple of years. Seriously, everything from vehicles to furniture to houses. (must be nice, eh?)
Anyway, so we've had that out in the garage for quite a while. Way before that, he got a small chest freezer that is also out there. Lotsa room for sure, in total! ![]()
My only whine is that the refrigerator out there is one of those French door with the freezer a pull-out drawer on the bottom. Dreadful! Plus, I don't think I'd go with a chest freezer either. It's too hard to find stuff, even though it's a pretty small one.
I'm still a 'freezer on top' girl, so my kichen refrigerator is one of those.

When a friend moved back East, her refrigerator wasn't due at her new home for several days. I took over several large coolers, well chilled, with cold packs and bags of ice to get her through until her fridge arrived. It worked.

The repairman just left. It's the electronic temperature control board. He couldn't even trick it to do diagnostics on it so it's obviously shot. Fortunately he can get the part and it should be here early next week. We're shooting for Wednesday to get it done. Just under $400 for the whole job, including the service charge, part, and labor. I don't know if that's bad or good, but I like the guy and it needed to be done. Better to pay him than buy another refrigerator.
Looking in the bright side, this inconvenience has given me the opportunity to do a thorough cleaning of the interior the fridge and freezer, and I will go through everything when I refill it.

I bought an 18 cubic foot Frigidaire refrigerator last October for under $800, replacing a 20+ year old Whirlpool that is backup to our main fridge. Garage fridge is for drinks and trucker daughters food storage.
