I do use coupons as often as possible. Not inclined to go through dumpsters, etc. But if there are really good coupons, I stop off by the newspaper office (not very far away) and pick up a few extras from their outside stash. Feels good to save a little, even though my couponing only amounts to maybe five to ten dollars a week. It adds up.
I also watch the ads for the grocery where I shop. Last week they had the frozen pizzas we like for $4.99 each instead of $8.99 (the usual price). So I bought four and saved quite a bit. Bought some of our favorite juices which were buy one, get one free. Lots of other things I normally buy are on sale almost every week.
DH is quite amazed. His former wife (deceased) would never use coupons, as he said she was too proud to have anyone see her using coupons. How totally silly!! I can't imagine that - for me a few dollars saved is a very good thing. He likes it too.

We are a family of 4 and I spend about $2K a month on food/ household goods/ vehicle expenses(not insurance) / clothing---Basically anything we need to run this house, outside of gas/electricity bills and gardening stuff. We almost NEVER eat out & I provide all the meals for my kids, even stuff they take to school.
I shop Costco, our International Market (very fair priced place I might add), Trader Joes, Target, Dollar Store and Walgreens (typically). I stock up on Meats/yogurt/juice/baked goods/snacks at the beginning of the month, and make stops throughout for other items., including fresh fruits and veggies. We are particular about the quality of our meats and dairy and I find Costco is as good if not better quality than any other "expensive" store (such as AKA Whole "Paycheck"). I also agree with Costco's business practices, and farmers they contract with, as well as how they provide for their employees. The CEO runs his business humanely, and contracts with farmers who are sustainable to the earth. Ever notice the difference in attitudes between those who work at Costco & the employees working for Sam's? There's a reason for that.
I also am big on not wasting food. So we eat leftovers and I almost NEVER throw something out if I can use it somehow. My kids are little people with their own taste, as are my husband and I, so we don't all get the same snacks, but when it comes to our meals, we all eat the same things.
**We do buy quality meats and dairy (no-hormone, grass fed, organic), but I make no apologies for that, because the way I see it, eating organic is still cheaper than medical expenses and medicine.
So yes, if you buy quality, it adds up, and probably even if you don't as prices have sky rocketed.
