TVP,(Textured Vegetable Protein) is a soy product used as a protein source/meat substitute. It's often used in school lunch programs. I buy non-GMO TVP. In recipes such as the sloppy joes, (above) chili, pasta sauce, stir-fry's, etc. it adds a meat like texture. Most of these recipes get most of their flavor from ingredients other than meat, anyway.
It is many times cheaper than meat, and easy to store. I have researched the possible link to estrogen based cancers, and am satisfied that the risk is null.
For anyone interested in eating less meat, or cutting their meat bills-I would recommend trying TVP.

Bob's Redmill makes TSP and TVP. I like tgem both for adding to things such as you said. It has no taste and doesnt mess with texture.
