I use plastic exclusively.  Don't own any glass containers.  I use L&L and also recylce the plastic containers cold cuts come in.  I'm 67 and still healthy so I think there are other things more toxic than plastic.

I use Lock and Lock for storing, and reheating. I put it in the dishwasher too. It gets that white discoloration at places, but it is supposed to be free of all those bad chemicals. Years from now they will tell us that it was a mistake, but we have to go with what we know right now. If plastic makes you nervous, go with the glass - just don't drop it on the driveway when you are getting into the car!

Thanks ladies. Whew. I'm I won't be throwing out all my plastic containers. Your opinions were great.

While I prefer glass, I have lots of plastic--mostly Lock N Lock.   A few months ago, I did read an article about old plastic containers not being safe.  And, while I do think about it, because I do have some very old ones, I have not seen any ill effects from anyone in my home.  I seem to have a hard time discarding plastic.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!

gismogal - excellent response to ditzydori's post.

As long as it's BPA free, I have no problem with plastic.  Ditzydori, your sister thinks plastic is toxic even if you're just storing food in it?  You might ask her why she thinks so. Ask her for her legitimate, scientific, research-based references. I suspect she has none. Sure there may be some wacko websites, but I'm talking about research-based references.

If plastic was toxic even if you just stored food in it, we'd probably all have been dead years ago. Think of how long Tupperware has been on the market. If all the food stored in Tupperware was toxic, they'd have been sued and likely would be out of business years ago. Plenty of food in our supermarkets comes in plastic containers and I suspect your sister purchases such food. If your sister only wants to store and heat her food in glass, that's fine, but I don't believe there's any reason to do so.

I use both glass and plastic.  Like another poster said, if I am going to reheat it in the microwave, glass definitely.

Otherwise, I store all my leftovers and fruits and vegggies from the store in Lock n Lock.

Luv my Lock n Lock !!

FYI: The L&L that we buy is made of polypropylene, which does not and never did contain BHA.

Years ago, L&L did make a  more expensive line of plastic from polycarbonate, which does contain BHA. It was harder and more durable. But because of the concersn regarding BPA, they now make that line out Tritan (proprietary name) plastic, which is BP-free. But it is still more expensive than the regular polypropylene line.

What you all are buying is now is polypropylene, and it is totally safe.

I prefer glass, but plastic is lighter in weight and easier to handle.  I use both, as long as the plastic containers don't have a (chemical) 'odor'.  I'm sure that the Q has made sure that all of the plastics are food quality and safe. ....  As far as plastic wrap in the rolls, I just bought two and they have a definite odor, so I'm taking them back.  Could be that they were stored in the store along with detergents and other chemicals.  I tried airing out a roll, but the odor seems to be coming from within the roll of plastic.  Sometimes chemicals penetrate cardboard and once trapped inside, the odor remains there.  So, back the two rolls go.   One thing that's nice is that most supermarkets and pharmacies are very customer friendly, and will return their defective items to the manufacturer.  We are very lucky in those regards.

I use both. They each have their place.

If something is going in the freezer, it's plastic. For things going into three frig, it's apt to be glass.
