my KA hand mixer is digital & 9 speed.  Nothing wrong with it except it's over 10 years old.  I use it almost daily.

Thinking of picking TSV as  a backup - is 5 speed as good as 9 speeds?

Other big thing I like it doesn't have "digital speed control" but a nice big button.

Thank you!

Amazon has this same mixer for $32 plus free shipping for prime members.

I have a KA 5 speed that I purchased at Target.  I hate it.  There I see no power and it is weak and slow.

i am hoping for a 9 speed model soon.

i don't know if the 5 speed they are selling today is the same as the one I have, but it looks the same and I wasn't impressed with the demo,

Did you notice that the potatoes not really got mashed and creamy? They stayed lumpy.

I have the digital 9 speed, 10 years old and still going strong!

No comparison to the TSV, especially for regular use.

Thy have another 5 speed already on the Q site and the reviews aren't that great. I wouldn't get a 5 speed after owning a 9 speed anyway. you will probably be disappointed.

why not wait until you need one?, they are readily available

then get what you really need, rather than spend money on something you are not that may not get used soon

just my thoughts

I would wait for a 9 speed one. I have had one for probably 8 years and still going strong. Used almost daily.  I even use the hand mixer more than my big stand mixer.

@Snowpuppy    I have the 9 speed KA hand mixer, too, and I wouldn't trade it for anything else.  I don't do enough to need a stand mixer at my age, but this 9 speed is great!  I can't see where a 5 speed could do the same as the 9.  It even mixes cookie dough!

Hubby got me this KA mixer a few years ago and it is not as good as some of the cheaper ones I've had. Kind of whimpy and I don[t like the beaters---too thin to do much. Only use it on rare occassions now.

I posted this in the other thread in TSV forum:

I guess it depends on how much power you want.  Looking at this model on other sites I have learned that the motor is 0.6 amps, 120 volts which converts to 72 watts of power.  I have a 9 speed kitchen aid hand mixer that I got from the Q which says 0.9 amps, 120 volts which equals 108 watts.   Hard to say if anyone will notice the difference.  I like mine though I don't use it that much.
