If you're going to sub stock for water in this, make sure it's homemade with no added salt or at least low sodium if store bought. Stove Top is just insanely salty on it's own.

no kidding! I cant use Stove Top due to the sodium content.....it is hard to avoid high sodium during the holidays if you use any prepared foods in your holiday recipes....it seems everything has canned soup or broth in it. I have figured out how to avoid most of it but it is more time-consuming for sure.

Have you ever tried the Lower Sodium Chicken Stove Top? I might try that one since I will be using pork sausage.

This is my first time hosting Thanksgiving since I have been working. I need to take some shortcuts but still not compromise dinner.

Does anyone add herbs to Stove Top?

My family loves Stove Top Stuffing. I perk it up a with onions, celery, bell peppers and sometimes I add some broth to make it a little more moist, but that's our go-to stuffing. We eat it all year long.

house_cat, thank you! Do you sautee the veggies before you add them?

Yes, I sautee first. If I'm making it ahead, I'll add some extra broth so it doesn't dry up when I'm heating it.

Sometimes, if I'm making it just as a side for DH and I.. I'll add peas to it. Then I can just make a couple of chicken breasts and it's a meal.

Thanks! My husband is on a frozen peas kick. I'll try that.

I'm going to do a dry run this week with some broiled chicken breasts.

Thank you!!!!!!

Gosh I don't remember the last time I ate Stove Top.....it's been years. I remember it being very salty, too.

I do the smoked game thing as House Cat and I add finely minced carrot to the veggie Saute....if you really want to go whole hog, reserve some drippings for the stuffing- bliss! Poodlepet
