How do you store lettuce in the fridge? I just had to throw out brand new green leaf lettuce. It was wilted and brown edges!  I had  put it in a plastic container.

Re: Storing Lettuce in Fridge?

Wash it immediately before first use.

Remove what you need.

Wrap it in a clean flour sack dish towel to absorb moisture, drop that into a plastic bag, store in crisper drawer.

Plan to eat it within a short time.

In the container it came in, either a plastic bin or a plastic bag I clip shut after opening. It has a pretty short shelf life.

I knock out the core, remove the outer leaf, run cold water in the core opening until it gets in the head

Then I pour off the water, shake and drain on paper towels for an hour.  Storage is in a large zip lock one side with paper towels  and the air pressed out.

I wash it first then wrap in paper towels.  I line the bottom of my air tight OXO glass container w/paper towels.

Lettuce stays fresh for approximately 1 1/2 weeks.

Re: Storing Lettuce in Fridge?

I remove any unwanted outer leaves, slam core side down on the counter to remove core, rinse and dry completely with paper towels.

Wrap in dry paper towels and store in a Debbie Meyers Green Bag.

As I'm using the lettuce, when the paper towels it's wrapped in feels damp, I re-wrap in dry paper towels and lay the damp ones on the counter to dry, fold and set aside.

The next time I need to change the paper towels, the first ones are dry and can be reused.

The key to making lettuce last is keeping it dry. A head of lettuce lasts me 2 weeks this way.

Never wash it, put it in my Rubbermaid Freshworks Produce Container, I use them for fruits also, makes things last much longer
