I wouldn't even notice if one of these franchise restaurants closed around me. I've never eaten at any franchise restaurants. I support my locals.

Some of us don't have a lot of choice--depending on where we live. And some franchise places are WAY better than some of our locals too. . .

I miss Shoney's !! They had the best salad bar and hamburgers...my mouth is watering just thinking about it!!

Thank goodness we still have a Shoney's and the place is usually packed after 5:00 PM. We've lost the nearby Ponderosa and Chi-Chi's which is a shame. Pizza Huts are starting to downsize to carry out only. Many new locally owned restaurants come and go. Fast food restaurants seemingly always make it.

There are quite a few Shoney's around here (mid-south), but I've never eaten at one. Fudruckers is still around - I went to one when I was in Rome, GA last April, but wasn't impressed.

I'd rather support independent restaurants as well, but there are very few of them around here - that's one of the few things I miss about living in NYC.

I didn't read the article, but I've never even heard of ANY of the places that were mentioned in the posts on this thread. Is this pretty much a regional bunch of closings?

Bennigans was an Irish style restaurant, nation wide, and Steak and Ale was nationwide with British Pub style food........Steak and Ale started in Dallas, TX.......It remained an independent chain until 1976, when Pillsbury purchased it and folded it into its restaurant group with Burger King, Bennigan's and other stores. At the time, the company had 113 locations of Steak and Ale and Jolly Ox (the name Steak and Ale used in markets that didn't allow a reference to liquor in a restaurant name).

This is current for Bennigans......Coming Soon!

Fayetteville, TN

Melbourne, FL

Pampa, TX

Orlando, FL

California, USA

Mumbai, India

Camp Humphreys, South Korea

This is a picture of their Monte Cristo.....

So do I.

Popeye's came to town and the wait for 2 HOURS to get served.

I went after it calmed down a little (20 minute wait) and I wasn't impressed. Not only was it not very good...it was very expensive too.

We have some great local places that serve Cajun food...I'll si
