I caught a little of Sharon doing her food show yesterday for Easter food especially hams for Easter. She chatted up the 'bargain' on buying 2 Smithfield hams, 3-4 lbs each for a mere $65.00. I was less than thrilled with the type of cut of hams that she was selling. More importantly I can buy this same brand Smithfield's at any of my local Aldi's because they sell this brand and spend MUCH less that these 2 for $65.00!!!!!! Just saying.

Re: Smithfield hams w/Sharon

Smihfield brand seems to be available everywhere locally for me. But I thought that the brand had been purchased by China, thus I don't want it anymore at any price. Who knows what they feed their hogs there!

I know they say they are from American raised animals, but I question the handling process.

And, I resent their treatment of Paula Deen.

I thought the same thing when I was watching. What's the big deal?!?! I can get Smithfield hams here for a lot less than their price. I honestly don't see any great deals on any of their food items. I got lured into buying the potstickers by David V. I was not impressed. I've had better ones from our grocery store....again at a lot less money. The only other food item I bought was a cake years ago. I think it was from Balboa Cakes. I believe Jill had them make her wedding cake. It was a chocolate mousse cake and it was dry as a bone! Even the mousse was like cement.

wasn't this the company we had a video on how cruel they were to their animals....seems like there was a lot of talk about it a few years back....all I remember, for sure, is how sad it was to watch what they did to those animals....

Absolutely no more Smithfield products in our house anymore since being bought by China. Now if we can only get QVC to sell more American made products.

These people are beyond reprehensible. I would never purchase a product from this company.

Re: Smithfield hams w/Sharon

There are plenty of reasons not to buy Smithfield, but because the company is owned by a Chinese company is not one of them. The food is still from the U.S. If you are going to choose not to purchase fro the company, at least cite a legitimate concern (e.g. treatment of animals or workers).

Additionally, while like many, I find the cost ridiculous because I, too, can purchase it much more reasonably locally, please keep in mind that not everyone can.

Wow - I actually don't like ham so I do't buy it, but from what many of you say about bad raising of their hogs, I for sure won't be buying anything by this company.

Yes, this is the company that abused their animals. Nothing at all to do with China - I haven't purchased any of their products for a long time.
