Pig farms are not the best smelling things.  There are farms in Europe that are very clean and raise the artisinal pork, but it is an expensive operation to keep them that clean and feed them the special diets of different grains to flavor the pork and fatten it right!

tigriss:  you reminded me of something seen while down in Georgia visiting my son at school.  He and several of his fraternity brothers had rented a house located only about a block from a chicken processing plant.

The plant was owned by a nationally known chicken producer but has since closed down  after the company was sold to an even bigger chicken producer.

Son mentioned that the odor from the plant was not too enjoyable, but college kids can put up with anything as long as they have their freedom off-campus and away from  frat house rules, I guess.

As we were leaving town to get back home, we passed the plant and, much to our amusement, witnessed  two chickens hurriedly crossing the road, outside the high wire fence of the factory and heading away from it.  (Sort of like those two escapees from that New York prison recently)

That must answer the age-old comedy question:  "Why did the chicken cross the road?"

Apparently, the answer is "to get away from the slaughterhouse".  I was cheering for the chickens.

You are so right!

Any animal processing plant is horrid smelling along with dog food factories and paper mills. It greatly affects the property values.

SMITHFIELD IS THE MOST CRULEST COMPANY IN BUISNESS!!

I HAVE BEEN INSIDE THESE PIG FARMS, AND I CANNOT BELIEVE QVC BACKS THEM. SMITHFIELS KILLS LITTLE PIGLETS THAT DON'T MEET THEIR REQUIREMENTS BY SMASHING THEIR HEADS AGAINST THE CEMENT FLOOR!! AND ALL PIGS ARE TORTURED DAILY IN TINY CAGES WHERE THE PIGS CANNOT EVEN LAY DOWN. QVC NEEDS TO UP THEIR STANDARDS AND LOOK INTO COMPANYS BEFORE THEY START PRAISING THE TORTURE OF ANIMALS BY SMITHFIELS. PLUS CHINA SHIPS ALL THE MEAT TO CHINA...AND LEAVES BEHIND TORTURE AND LAND DESTROYED BY SMITHFIELDS!!

China is known for animal abuse. The people actually raise dogs for food. Under cover footage of  these places is sickening to watch....the buying and selling off dogs wagging their tails and being beaten......I wish China would fall to a plague.

I HAVE BEEN INSIDE OF THESE PIG TORTURE FARMS, I CANNOT BELIEVE QVC WOULD ALLOW A CHINA OWNED TORTURE CHAMBER TO SELL ANY MEAT FROM SMITHFIELD'S ON THEIR SHOW. THESE PIG TORTURE CHAMBERS NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN TODAY. IF QVC WOULD SEE THE ANIMAL CRUELTY THAT GOES ON INSIDE THOSE SMITHFIED BUILDINGS, THEY WOULDN'T EVEN MEATION THE NAME SMITHFIELD'S. QVC QUIT OKAYING TOURTURE OF THESE PIGS!!! STAND UP AGAINST TORTURE OF INNOCENT PIGS!! YOU KNOW HOW THEY KILL UNDERWEIGHT BABY PIGS? THEY SLAM THEIR HEADS AGAINST THE CONCRETE AND BLOOD AND SCREAMING IS EVERYWHERE!!!

I guess you haven't read about the latest news  involving QPC.   I'm sure you can read about it somewhere, because I read a long story about it in the Washington Post.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2015/11/11/that-one-was-definitely-alive-an-undercover-v...

By the way, there's something a little disingenuous about adopting new log-in nicknames on these forums and reviving old threads.  If your "issue" is pork processing, it's probably also not fair to brand Smithfield as the only transgressor.  Are you committed to not eating pork from ANY processor?  Just curious...........

Before everybody gets more invested in some of the misinformation  and rumors posted  about Smithfield, maybe a little more information and fact-checking are in order.
